Feature Update: A More Rewarding Streak!
Howdy, all!
You might have noticed that we’ve released new profile rollovers on the website. Facilitating supportive and safe interactions between all different types of users is why we exist. Our hope is that the new rollovers make it easier and fun to see who your fellow cupsers are - and learn a little something about them.
As part of this, we’ve updated the streak mechanic to make it more rewarding. Previously it only recognized completing a path step as contributing to a streak. As 7 Cups has evolved over the years, so has the myriad of things you can do to feel better or grow. Streaks now reflect this and you can continue to build a streak even by simply visiting the platform (for which you’ll now earn some growth/cheers points).
Whilst we’re here, we should also mention that upgraded user profile pages are coming soon too. We haven’t given these important pages much attention in recent years so we’re excited to give them an upgrade!
@Heather225 I think this is a great new addition. We were pretty hardcore about all these game mechanics way back when and way overemphasized doing exercises for growth when now we know much more is therapeutic, including just reading a forum post. I'm glad people will now get credit for growth across all activities and not just for proactive exercises.
[Removed this due to misassumptions]
Thank you
@FrenchMarbles
Marbles, as we have collaborated together for a while, I know you well enough to detect a tone of sarcasm. Sarcasm can often be an expression of anger, and I’d like to better understand from your perspective: if you are angry, what makes you angry about the rollover and streak?
@Heather225 oh no 💀 no sarcasm. I really am excited about this. I kept being frustrated over how I would be here every day and not have any plus one for streaks and many members feel the same so it'll be a good way to reward people for coming in and checking daily. Sorry, I've discovered the emoji keyboard and got overly excited ❤️
@FrenchMarbles To me, as someone who isn't involved, it sounds like you're imitating the overboarding and possibly fake positivity that can sometimes be found under site update posts, where often something that requires the change of a quarter page of html/php or less is hyped like a flight to Mars, by people whose task that even may be - I'm not sure of that (lately, we had some rather big changes in addition to the small ones, though - but then, it would be nice to highlight those who worked on them).
I prefer the honest, normal kind of feedback, it always amazes me how people can be so hyped up about a few hours of coding. If someone is working full time, that's just a fraction of their day's work. If they live outside the US, they probably do it for very little money, too (sadly).
I really like that Heather asked, it was very nice of her. This is your chance to explain what you mean, FrenchMarbles.
@Heather225
The rollovers are great! They really help to fast know better the person instead of going to the profile.
I don't find so relevant the info on their Progress Path. It would be more interesting to me to know Forum Posts, Group Chats, etc to know if they are a "Forum person" or a "Groupchat person" and how active on those fronts. The latter could be shown in Member profiles as well I think. Why give more relevance to their Forum activity than their activity in Rooms or 1-1 ?
The change in Streak indicator is relevant as it provides a better measure of recent activity, I think. My only caveat is that some people might feel those show "too much" about them. But for me is great info and perfectly ok to show to the world.
Congratulations again for the Profile Rollovers, which encourage interactions and engagement by making it easier to feel confident about who you are talking to.
Anything that increases transparency, and encourages interactions and engagement is much welcome and valuable for promoting a more closely integrated, active and cohesive Community!
oh this is awesome!!
@Heather225
I’m happy about these upcoming changes, but the upgraded profile page is what got my attention. We’ve had the same style for a while now, and think something new and fun would be neat. It kind of catches up with the other changes we’ve had with the interface recently.
I also appreciate the rollovers as it makes it faster to see some thing’s like if someone is verified yet or not.

@Jenna LOL!
@ouiCherie i second this question as well. I rarely log out from 7cups via computer web browser, even after turning on and off the device. I would still be logged in by the time my tabs are reloaded upon opening the browser again.
@Heather225 this new method of earning streaks sounds more easier to achieve. Thank you for making this update! And I am thrilled to see the new changes for user profiles!
What is a rollover? Are they somewhere on this website?
@Heather225 Awesome updates, Heather and team! ❤️
In my time here, I used to see mostly 1-day streaks even in older active member/listener accounts, it didn't make sense. So good of you guys to have resolved and expanded the criteria for the streak. I'm very happy about that 😊 A question follows now, would the last active stat for be affected? Because the streak, in a way, would show the activity. I'm just curious, it's not personally important to me 😌
Also, I'm excited about the profile updates! So far, I love the little blurbs that show the stats when we hover over the usernames, it's better than before.
Thank you for your efforts to make this place better and more engaging!
Hi all, just raising my hand here ✋ as the person on the inside that lead the team who worked on these improvements. Delighted its landed well - and I'm sure some elements (like the streaks) will need to be evolved further as a mechanic. The last active will not be affected by the streak update. And you don't need to 'log in' each day (so to speak) but rather just visit the site/app each day. If you want to be sure that your day gets counted, I'd recommend hearting a post on your feed or clicking into a post to read it further.
It genuinely is making me smile 😊 this week when I hover on a user profile icon and see their streak. And excited to see if it becomes more used by everyone.
I'm also keen to further simplify and consolidate our gamification mechanics to make it easier and simpler to use. Open to ideas and suggestions here!
@Jon7Cups
Hi Jon! 😊❤️ I wanted to take a moment to thank you! For me, it's important to give credit where credit is due. I appreciate you as well as the others on the team. ❤️
From my vantage point, I can see the changes and can only imagine all of the long hours of hard work that goes into making these things happen. In addition, I imagine devs rarely get much "love" around this place.
Something goes wrong, people get frustrated and blame the devs as if they are our arch nemesis with the intention to make our lives that much more difficult, lol 😊. It seems to me that once one thing is changed in the system, it can change something else with a negative impact, inadvertently and so it takes a moment to catch up to the next piece of that puzzle? Hunting it down and trying to out run it must be quite challenging.
Bug tickets pile up, the complaint department must hear quite a bit of negativity. I'm sorry for that. I'm confident you are all just doing your jobs and doing your personal best to find resolution as quickly as possible.
We as listeners are asked to and have been provided training on how to show empathy towards our members. Sometimes it must be disappointing to not see that become a portable skill from time to time and to not see empathy and patience reflected towards the dev team. All of you are human beings behind the screen with a heart, a soul, a pulse, feelings and I wonder if that is forgotten at times? We are all on the same team. You folks are our teammates as well! 😊❤️
I appreciate you! ❤️ Thank for showing up front and center on threads. Thank you for providing us with suggestions on how to best maximize what it is that we have as you have done above. Thank you for being apparent. Clearly, you are not hiding from anyone.
Thank you for showing up in rooms. I "see" you floating around and checking on things. Thank you for your willingness to hear suggestions and feedback as you have stated in this post as well as on your profile page! Thank you for pm-ing those in need, spending time with them to ask them what it is that they see from their vantage point on the dashboard and sticking with them until you are confident they understand and or have found resolution for their query.
Again, many thanks my friend!
*high fives* 😊 big *hugs* ❤️ and keep rockin' the house!
@SparkyGizmo thank you for the appreciation! I would love to be even more present if I could 😊. We're an amazing community and its a genuine pleasure to do what I can to make it better for you all.
