December 2024 Community Update!

...See more Dear Community I enjoyed celebrating Cupsgiving with all of you! A big thank you to all the people that cooked the meals, shared the pies/cookies, and took part in all of the programming. It was great to read the forum posts highlighting the impact of gratitude and generosity! The big news in our world is that we released our local support systems. This is version 1 of us working to bridge online care with offline care. Many people come to 7 Cups looking for help on the ground - they might need access to a food pantry, a shelter, a therapist, a treatment center, or a faith organization. We often make referrals to these places, but we can now do it in a more deliberate manner. Also, you’ll notice if you click here: 7cups.com/local [http://7cups.com/local], you’ll see that we have the beginnings of a parallel mental health system for each country (and many states in the US). We are highlighting the number of people we’ve helped, the number of listeners, and the top 50 mental health issues for each state or country. We hope that these pages become hubs for local support resources so that people can get better help. Feedback and ideas on how we could make this better are very welcome! Last, we are also working on a simple but powerful intervention we are calling the transformation wheel. I’ve asked the team and ambassadors to help me strengthen it before I share it more broadly. Look for more on this in the next week or two. With gratitude, GlenM H Happy Cupsgiving! I hope you’ve been enjoying all the gratitude events our wonderful community has put on. There’s plenty more to look forward to with Cupsmas so keep your eyes out for announcements, and I am excited to be out there celebrating with you! Speaking of gratitude, our caring community is at work each day supporting and uplifting each other through various acts of compassion. Listeners, leaders, and members alike - it could be anyone making a difference through little acts of kindness. I rolled out a recognition activity to catch these moments and tag them! This is community-wide and runs through the end of the year so bookmark/subscribe to this post (Caught You Kind) [https://www.7cups.com/forum/projectsandevents/CommunityActivitiesEvents_1908/JoinOurCaughtYouKindRecognitionCampaign_340430/] and let someone know you see them! The Welcome Committee has been a smashing success! Since its launch in July, our team has welcomed over 19,000+ new members! That's a staggering number, representing 19,000+ unique personal messages. But more importantly, these outreaches have created a vital bridge between newcomers and the 7 Cups community. By reaching out personally, Welcome Committee members are helping our new members feel seen, supported, and equipped to navigate the platform. This warm welcome makes acclimating to 7 Cups a smoother experience, encouraging them to participate and benefit from all the amazing resources and connections available. We need more folks to ramp up our efforts and cover more ground. If you're a Verified Listener, please consider joining us: apply here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/welcome/TheWelcomeCommitteeTeam_2670/CallingAllVerifiedListenersHelpWantedonthe7CupsWelcomeCommittee_332406/] Are you a new member who has been greeted by the WC? Drop a reply after reading this post to let me know! And do check out our top greeters of the month here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/welcome/TheWelcomeCommitteeTeam_2670/CongratulationstoourNovemberWelcomeCommitteeTeamMemberMilestones_340504/]! Hope One of the most exciting news from November is the launch of the 7 Cups scholarship! The 7 Cups Scholarship reflects our commitment to empowering future mental health leaders by supporting students and future students in pursuing a mental health-related program. Open to both people in and outside the USA. Join us in shaping a brighter future for mental health care! More info can be found here [https://www.7cups.com/academy/] (info comes right after university logos listed on the page) It has been an eventful month on the teen side! Quests of Kindness continued with Weeks 2, 3, and 4 going live. Week 2 focused on kindness towards others, Week 3 on cultivating optimism, and Week 4 on building resilience. Teens and adult-teen listeners can still participate and catch up on tasks, the deadline to complete the challenge is December 15, 2024. We also launched Mission Revive TL, aimed at making the teen listener room a more engaging and supportive space. Interested in contributing? You can join the efforts here.  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/teens/TeenZoneCommunityTeam_590/MissionRevivingTLisBackbutonlyforalimitedTime_340860] Additionally, The Leadership Development Program (LDP) has adjusted its entry requirements, members can now join after just two weeks on 7 Cups (previously one month) The workshop series is getting quite some interest from our community users. In light of the efforts of participants and received interest, the deadline to complete all participation is extended from November 30, 2024, to December 8, 2024. You can check out all the workshops being offered here.  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/community/General_2530/Allforumworkshopseriesnowavailableforalimitedtime_338545/?p=2] One of the most exciting happenings of November has been the updated 7 Cups Academy page! You make a huge difference in someone’s day to make it comforting and caring. This quiz is a good way to evaluate how compassionate you are. Everyone who has taken the quiz so far loved it and as per their feedback and suggestions, we will be releasing the second compassion quiz by the end of December 2024. We are close to 300 compassionate heroes so far, We are looking forward to getting 500+ compassionate heroes by the end of the year.  If you are a member and you haven’t attempted the quiz yet, give it a try here [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScMEXP6lopKu4ZJAtmctmwk0vq9Fp7T892gWJteqmQoIJa_Dg/viewform]!  And, we are working on reviving the Birthday Team to celebrate the birthday of the members and listeners with the community. ...See more Please post here 3 key things you have done to help move 7 Cups forward. I will be doing this on a daily basis. Feel free to do it daily, weekly, or monthly. Right now we've got thousands of people doing a lot of work on the site, but we don't have a clear way of being able to support one another. The goal of this thread is to help all of us see all the good work that is going on. Please ask any questions or share thoughts!

...See more Hi everyone! This is a forum post linked to the path 'Preventing Burnout at 7 Cups' [https://www.7cups.com/path/playlist/preventing-burnout-at-7-cups/] What have you done today/recently to prevent burnout in a fellow community user? This can look like: • Encouraging self-care • Reminding someone of the importance of boundaries • Covering for someone so they can take a self-care break

...See more Just a quick note that we've fixed the Noni reminders bug. I know this one was troubling many of you. You can now edit or remove your Noni reminders as you'd like. There was also a timestamp issue in your Noni chat that cropped up which has also been dealt with.
Can we notify people when their post or thread gets deleted?

...See more I recently had a thread deleted that was between one to two years old. This was frustrating to me, because it had many comments, and people were still commenting on it from time to time. Perhaps the site could be updated so that posters would be notified when their thread or post is deleted (and it would have to include an explanation as to why).
Feature Update: A More Rewarding Streak!
by Heather225

May 13th
...See more Howdy, all! You might have noticed that we’ve released new profile rollovers on the website. Facilitating supportive and safe interactions between all different types of users is why we exist. Our hope is that the new rollovers make it easier and fun to see who your fellow cupsers are - and learn a little something about them. As part of this, we’ve updated the streak mechanic to make it more rewarding. Previously it only recognized completing a path step as contributing to a streak. As 7 Cups has evolved over the years, so has the myriad of things you can do to feel better or grow. Streaks now reflect this and you can continue to build a streak even by simply visiting the platform (for which you’ll now earn some growth/cheers points). Whilst we’re here, we should also mention that upgraded user profile pages are coming soon too. We haven’t given these important pages much attention in recent years so we’re excited to give them an upgrade!
Two Simple Steps to Submit the Listener Review
by ASilentObserver
Last post
May 4th
...See more Hello everyone! This post will explain how a member can leave feedback for a listener in the 1-1 chats.  As you all might know two things:  * We have updated the 1-1 Chat interface [https://www.7cups.com/forum/siteupdates/FeatureUpdates_2525/FeatureUpdateChat20rollout_307518/] a few months ago.  * Feedback is part of our community culture and we encourage feedback!  Here are two easy steps to submit the feedback.  Step - I) Click on the ellipsis (…) displayed at the top right corner of the chat box. Select, “End chat”!  Step -II) The Listener Review Modal will appear. Select the “*” for the ratings and write the review to submit it.  Here are the screenshots of how to do it in both - browser and app mode!   I) Browser II) App Sharing feedback is helpful and we all encourage you that whenever you have a chat with a listener. Please do share your experiences of the chat as feedback. Your feedback helps us to serve the community better.  Notes:  * Review or Feedback are two terms that you may find used interchangeably at times. So, if someone says “share the feedback” or “leave the review”. It means they requesting your feedback based on your experiences.  * If you have ongoing communication, then you can focus on the conversation to share and get support. We received feedback from the community, about how showing up a review pop-up in the middle of the conversation was distracting for members and also feedback submitted wasn't constructive. So now when members/listeners feel the conversation is done for the hour, either of them can end the chat to prompt the feedback pop-up for constructive feedback.  * Please note to leave the review, you need to have at least some conversation with the listener.
Feature Update: Adding your forum posts to your profile
by Jon7Cups
Last post
May 4th
...See more A common request we receive is to make it easier to find your own forum posts. So soon we will be adding your historical forum posts to your profile. This is already live for listener profiles on the website (e.g. click on my profile above to see my historical posts) and will be made live for member profiles in the coming days too. When listeners try to support a member, its helpful for them to know more context about the member. Likewise, when a member is receiving support from a listener, its helpful to know more about that listener. Thats why profile pages are some of the most popular parts of the site. Adding your historical posts to your profile makes it one step easier for all users to get better context and understanding. Right now if you're looking for a user's forum posts, you have to use forum search - a slower and more cumbersome way to find the context you need to help someone. I hope this update will make just a little bit easier to connect with someone else and provide/receive support.
Feature Request - 2 Factor Authentication and Account Security Improvements
by GnomedBinary
Last post
May 4th
...See more So I just realised this when editing my account settings, And I'd like there to be an update to fix this, because I believe this is a glaring account security risk. There is currently no authentication process for changing your account password, and no 2 factor authentication. This means, all someone needs to do in order to steal your 7 Cups account - is know the email you're using. To change your password, you should be required to verify your current one - which leads me to the next problem: There needs to be an optional 2-factor authentication - this feature is standard for most social media accounts, and even though 7 Cups is not a social media - I'm surprised it doesn't have 2FA. This 2-Factor Authentication, when setup and enabled - should require you to verify your 2FA when logging into 7 Cups on a new device, and changing any security related account settings such as your password and deleting/de-activation. (for both Listener and Member accounts, if linked to the same email) I also want to point out that this 2-Factor authentication method should only be for "Authy" or other 3rd-party authenticator apps, while authentication via email should still be available - SMS based authentication should not, as it is vulnerable to social engineering and SIM hi-jacking which can compromise any account (not just 7 Cups) associated with the user's phone number.
Feature Update: Quote reply in chats
by Jon7Cups

...See more All, this is an update we're really excited about. In 1-1 chats and group chats, you can now do a quote reply! This is where you can select a specific message to reply to, and then your reply includes a short visual of the message you replied to. Thats probably not the simplest description... so instead, I encourage you to try it out for yourself.  This update is only on the website for now, but we will be bringing it to the mobile app soon.  Using quote reply makes it easier for supportive conversations to flow - as all participants can better understand when a message is referring or replying to something or someone specific. Its a feature widely used on many messaging platforms.  To give it a try, click the backwards arrow underneath a message. We hope you find this a helpful update.
Request: Additions to "Issues you don't want to discuss" ?

...See more HI there. Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Please can we have some updates to the "issues you don't want to discuss" list for listeners profiles? I don't want to discuss incest or anything sexual, but these aren't checkboxes I can tick. I think it would help a lot of people who have trauma related to these topics to be able to blanket refuse discussion of them! Thank you so much.
Feature Update: Chat 2.0 rollout
by Jon7Cups
Last post
December 8th, 2023
...See more As you’ve probably noticed if you use the website, you now have access to the improved Chat 2.0 system via the “Try 7 Cups Chat 2.0” button on the chat page. We’ve been working hard for months to rebuild the chat system from the ground up to make it more reliable, stable and useful. We want to thank early testers who have been using it and sharing their feedback. We’ve been catching bugs and making some UI tweaks in response to all the feedback. This has really been a community endeavour. Now is a good time to outline the feature improvements in Chat 2.0. Change is never easy, so we appreciate that for long term users of 7 Cups some changes are difficult to adjust to. We hope you will give it a try and enjoy the benefits even if there are some aspects that are not your preference. Key updates * The chat inbox (left column for laptop/PC/tablet users) now orders groups by time of last message, shows a live indicator if a message was sent recently and tells you how many users are currently active in the room. The inbox is also now scrollable rather than needing to click show more. * The central chat/messages window is narrower, has redesigned message bubbles and moved action buttons into an ellipsis (3 dots) to make the screen calmer, less chaotic and easier to read. The message bubbles have been tweaked even further thanks to user feedback so that we can fit a good amount of messages on the screen. * Created a new right column (laptop/PC) that includes different guidelines for each group chat and will be used to display prompts and other items that help facilitate supportive conversations in the future. This is particularly aimed at newbies who report finding group chats a bit confusing. * Chats now each get their own URL so that you can refresh each chat page and so that you can directly link to a group chat. * And lots of updates under the hood to make chats stable and more robust. From next week, all website users will be switched over to the Chat 2.0 system. Everything we do is in service of you the community. As you know, products like 7 Cups are used by lots of different people with lots of different preferences. We hope that you will appreciate the effort and intent from the team to make your experience better. Please be mindful when sharing your comments and thoughts - everything shared is read and we are real people.
Feature Update: A new community page
by Jon7Cups
Last post
November 30th, 2023
...See more The most important thing about 7 Cups is the community - all of you. This community of listeners, members and therapists helping each other is rather special. But we still receive feedback that it can be hard to navigate the community or to find your place in it. There are many aspects to this (better search please!) and we can't solve it all at once. An improvement that we've been working on is exploring how to elevate the most important aspects of the community and make it easier to dive into.  This has lead us to the development of a new community page for the website that will replace the forum homepage. This community page keeps all the forum elements that were there already (lists of communities, feeds of content, guidelines, search) and sprinkles in a few more things that have been requested.  For members, the additions are a carousel highlighting the browse listeners page (how many times have you recommended that page to a newbie that didn't know about it?), a new route into the chat queue (with info on wait times), a live updating list of facilitated group discussions and the recently developed community updates module.  For listeners, many of the same elements plus a carousel highlighting available mentors. Increased visibility of the mentor programme is something that has been widely discussed.  Change is never easy, and I'm sure this will be no different for some of you. If you'd like to take the new page for a test run before it goes live in the next few days, feel free to PM me.
Feature Update: Statuses coming to a profile near you
by Jon7Cups
Last post
November 4th, 2023
...See more Wanted to let you know about a feature update that will be released later today or tomorrow. This one was actually inspired by some feedback from @Fradiga so thank you!  Recently, quotes were added to profiles on the website (you can add a quote from your settings page and it is displayed underneath your profile picture). We are now evolving quotes into statuses (but you can still use it for a quote if you prefer) and that status/quote will also be displayed on your profile rollover (what you see when you hover on someone's profile picture).  This means that you can let other users know handy info like when you tend to be online, what types of support you are looking for/provide or (probably the best use) a one liner/quote that shares a bit more about who you are. For this to work, we will have to impose a character limit on statuses/quotes so some users will need to update and shorten theirs. If you still want to share longer quotes, you're free to do so in the bio section in your profile. The character limit is being finalised and I'll share that soon.

Welcome to 7 Cups HQ.  This is where all news and updates will be posted by staff and ambassadors, subscribe to stay in the loop!
