Automatically (incorrectly) minimized forum posts are now *permanently* minimized
Example:
This bug is caused by a synergy of two other changes:
1) Forum posts automatically minimized
2) Recent site display change
As previously noted by multiple people, the automatic post minimization frequently flags false positives. The reassurance we were given was that we could simply manually expand posts if we wanted to. This is no longer possible.
This is not okay. Whoever has the power to change this, please do so ASAP.
@QuietMagic Agreed! This is a mess!
@mytwistedsoul
I see that your post got automatically minimized. Excellent example of what's happening here.
I was able to see what you posted from my notifications:
1) Your post doesn't violate forum/community guidelines and should not have been minimized. (Possibly there's an argument for Guideline 12 but it's not normally applied that strictly.)
2) Your post certainly should not have been *permanently* minimized.
@QuietMagic I never realized there was that many guidelines tbh. I had opened one reply from someone else earlier and it showed what they wrote but under what I had written them before it also had 1 reply and it was the same thing? And a button that says back to the beginning of conversation. Which literally took me back to page 1?
Sigh seems like multiple things are "broken" and I'm just starting to explore.
@AffyAvo
FYI, I just submitted four bug reports:
1) Bug report for the original issue I noted in this thread
2) Forum URL links from notification bell are broken for original post in thread
3) Forum pages linking to a specific post suppress the display of all other posts in thread except that post and the original post
4) Forum reply posts are a) hidden by default (shown by default is preferable) and b) displayed as duplicate posts later in thread
@QuietMagic Thanks! I've reached out as well.
@QuietMagic I believe the entire "tree structure" of the answers in a thread was gone. The answers are not sticked to the post which they belong to, but are listed one by one, filtered by date and time. It makes some threads completely unclear - especially those containing a lot of sub-threads or post exchanges.
@jacek73
I agree to this point. It is quite difficult to understand, especially in pen pal conversations.
@Heather225
@QuietMagic This is so not o.kay. As if the mini.mising that was happening all this while wasn't b.ad enough, it's now been made im.possible to see those mini.mised posts.
To all those who are res.ponsible for these changes, do you real.ise how it can make a person feel when they're being sil.enced and hi.dden for being honest and real, that too on a mental health site? And what about the in.correctly mini.mised posts where there isn't really any neg.ativity?
@exuberantBlackberry9105 I've often thought this too. It's extremely disheartening to pour your heart out or see someone else share what they're going through only to have it minimized and now? It's even worse.
@mytwistedsoul I couldn't agree more.
@mytwistedsoul Okay, looks like they did something about it, finally. I can see the posts now.
Hahahaha! I for. got to add the odd punctuati.on. Smh
@Heather225
Confirmed that this issue is now fixed. Thank you very much, for everything across the board:
- Responding promptly (in the other thread)
- Notifying the community that issues are being worked on
- Actually fixing it
There are other outstanding issues, but this is a great start and this was the issue that was really making me upset (because it was systematically pwning posts by the most vulnerable members and the most compassionate listeners on the site, in the absence of any actual rule violations). Appreciate your help. 💜
@QuietMagic
Thanks for the tag, Josh. ❤️
I know we're still chasing some other residual forum functionality bugs, so if anything is still acting up by Monday just tag or PM me and I will ensure it's getting addressed.
@Heather225 Could you add 'Reduce width of link for username/ user profile in post title to actual text width', to the list, please? It's too easy to misclick there while just scrolling or trying to click on something else.
Also, the pluses are awfully tiny, imagine someone with disabilities trying to navigate this (font size, plus size, click target size).
Just embedding some kind of 'automagical disability helper script' from some third party can't replace being mindful of users' physical restrictions from the start (but it's what your dev(s) have/has done to apply bandaid to the problem, some time ago, instead of actually fixing it).
@QuietMagic Where can we find that notification / other thread?

@QuietMagic Thank you!
I can't even get on my Path at all! Makes me mad but I don't know who to tell.
Hiya @Witchy1 could you please elaborate a little more on what path you're referring to and what's stopping you to access it? Is there some kinda error code or message prompt displaying on the screen? Or?😮
It can be frustrating to see your accessibility limited at times, and not knowing who to reach out to can be even more annoying for real, so I'm glad you shared here and hopefully someone can guide you better.
I'm not the most versed with tech-y things here, but you can always raise a technical support ticket using this form- https://help.7cups.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360002045893 or reach out to @soulfullyabutterfly with any specific assistance you need.💛
@QuietMagic As of right now as I write this, the issue is back. So are many other bugs.
@exuberantBlackberry9105
Yeah, I noticed that too. Right now I'm just waiting for the heads-up of "we think we've fixed what we can; please take a look and let us know what you think". Until then, I'd expect there to be some tinkering and things getting fixed and unfixed.
I'm encouraged by the fact that there's been acknowledgement of "yeah, things are not good, we get why you're unhappy and we're not satisfied with it either".
That and the fact that the changes in general were a response to server load, so it's not that someone woke up one day and decided on a whim "let me break the forums and change something that isn't broken" (as it initially felt like). Also explains why changes weren't immediately reverted despite the understandable avalanche of feedback, and why that probably isn't an option.
Will see what things look like in a few days and then start the next round of feedback.
@QuietMagic Hi, sorry I'm seeing this so late, I kinda had to take some time away from some stuff on Cups.
Yeah, you're right, after some repeated fixing and unfixing, I think the permanent minimising issue is fixed now, which is good. But yeah, I saw your other post on how you want the minimising of posts to be completely removed, and I agree with you. I think these past few days, some of my negativity-filled posts haven't been minimised so perhaps something has been done about it, or maybe it's just something that happened by chance, we'll have to wait and see.
And I agree with you about how it helped to know why things were changed and stuff, though I'd have appreciated knowing that before all the chaos happened. But I'm really happy with things now looking similar to how they were before all of it happened.
Just creating a test post to see whether new posts are minimized.
"This is a mess!"
"this is messed up"
"This change seriously messed up."
"It is still messed up today."
"I don't like this"
"the update makes navigating the forums a bit tedious"
"It's extremely disheartening"
"It's even worse"
"Very unnecessary"
"Makes me mad"
@QuietMagic You succeeded!
@AffyAvo
😇 You were my target audience... I saw your question in the feature update thread of whether it was retroactive or still catching new posts
@QuietMagic Your problem solving skills are greatly appreciated!
