Eid Al Adha Mubarak 2024
As-salamu alaykum, I hope you all are doing well and making the most of these blessed days. It is the second Eid celebrated by Muslims, and it is called Eid Al Adha. This Eid is on the 10th day of Dul Hijh (It's a month in the Islamic calendar which is a lunar calendar). It’s exact date is dependant on the sighting of the moon so it is on Sunday in some countries and on Monday in other countries. The Eid lasts for 3 days!
Eid is essentially a celebration, Muslims celebrate with food, wear their best clothes, and sacrifice an animal to share with the needy, loved ones, and themselves (this applies to those who can afford it). At the same time, some undertake Hajj, a yearly journey to Mecca (Saudi Arabia) mandatory for all Muslims once in a lifetime, who can afford it and are physically capable of completing it. More info can be found here.
Usually, you will find much diversity in how Muslims dress up, what food they consume, and how they celebrate eid. But common factors remain, good food, the best clothes, and meeting friends/family if they are close. Even if you do not celebrate, you can wish your Muslim friends or community users ‘Eid Mubarak’
On this Eid, let us be mindful of the people far away from their families and include them in our celebrations if possible. Keep those who are struggling in your prayers and help the needy ones around you if you can, for Eid is for everyone!
Those who are celebrating Eid, what are you looking forward to the most?
Note: We have the Religion sub-community now, so anyone interested is welcome to create posts related to Eid, the day of Arafah, and the various ways to make the most of these days here.
