Do you have any Easter traditions?

I attend sacrament meeting on Easter and then go home. Then we have an egg hunt for my niece.

Do you have any?

@Jenna

i did so much as a kid - the basket hunt, the egg hunt, lots of cute little knick knacks. now it's just a food holiday which is fine by me lol

That sounds like a lot of fun! We didn't do much egg hunting growing up, but we did have to hunt for our easter baskets. I hear you, food is always a win!

Happy Spring!

Happy Easter! We try to go to a sunrise service and then we have an Easter egg contest. My kids are pretty competitive about it (and oldest are 18); game is to see who finds the most eggs, but the big winner is the one that finds the basket. Then we do creamed eggs on toast: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/163998/creamed-eggs-on-toast/. More family comes over later in the day and we share a meal together. A nice time of year to reflect on hope and renewal!

I celebrate but no major specific tradition. Growing up, it was a holiday likely spent with family friends rather than extended family. Who we would see varied though so a lot of what we did depended on who we were seeing and the time of day. I did grow up with Easter egg hunts but haven't done anything like that in years. There's always some bunny candy dishes around with chocolate eggs though.

hey heather, so way back, (said way back because i don’t see or hear most people doing it anymore, however, some people may still believe or do it, excluding me and my family) one of the mythical easter traditions in my country involves using an egg to predict your future. how they’d do it was, the belief is if a person puts an egg white in a glass of water (something clear) on the night of holy thursday, his or her future can be seen on good friday. there’s more to it but that’s the simplified version.

another one, (not mythical) attending church, and eating fried fish on good friday. in my culture we celebrate easter weekend by eating easter bun and cheese and fried fish on good friday up until easter sunday. my favorite part was always the bun and cheese 😅 some people even make their bun instead of buying it.

i just finished eating a slice of bun and cheese too 🤤

@Heather225 growing up there was sometimes a community gathering and chocolate egg hunt but now I'm technically grown I've not established much for myself other than mainlining chocolate...does that count? Oh I did try purchase an Easter fruit and whipped cream cake but they'd run out. I do descend into the maze of contemplation about the meaning of it all; only tolerating brief forays into the depths before it becomes too V.C. Andrews Dark Angel: That's more part of my regular routine than a yearly ritual though - the former, of course, not the latter (One might hope and more exceptionally, will)

that does count lol i think the food is what most of us take into our adulthood. i don't know if i've ever had a proper easter cake but they look amazing

@Heather225 there was another Easter cake available the next day so I went with it. And have been in a mild sugar coma ever since.

Mainlining chocolate, eh? :)  I've not heard of buying "Easter cake" around here.  I mean we could easily buy or make cake for Easter... that's not really a tradition around where I live.  Not like maybe Christmastime with bouche de noel, or cake for Three Kings Day, etc.

The card I made for a friend said this:

Candy and Eggs, Family and Friends, Church and Food ... (open card)

It must be (almost) Easter!  Happy Easter dear friends!

Our tradition - or is becoming a tradition - is to meet at my parents' home before Easter Sunday.  My brother's kids, my mom, and I (sometimes my sister-in-law and my dad) divide out the eggs - as collected from their chickens and some bought at the store - into piles for each person to color, marker, 'magic crayon,' and decorate.  Once each egg is deemed 'Ready, we then dye it in a chosen color.  This year our favorite color was the 💙 blue; it was a beautiful shade!  We dyed eggs (hard-boiled and cooled) with food coloring this year.  I want to try the method of dying eggs with shaving cream; it sounds very messy and very fun!  Then we put them back in the fridge and take them out to eat one or two at a time.  They are very pretty.  It's like a mini treat each time I open the fridge door and see, "Ah, Easter eggs"  😄

Our family will meet ON Easter Sunday to attend church together and often come home (aka back to G'ma and G'pa's house) for a meal.  We usually have ham and some type of potatoes.  This year we also had cooked green beans and small crescent rolls.  We do not have a traditional dessert - unless you count Easter candy, lol.  This year we played a made-up game with the jelly beans, and then ate them, of course.

Although it might sound like it, it is really not all about the food.  It is about being together, spending time together, and celebrating Easter, that being Resurrection Sunday!  #EmptyCross  #EmptyTomb !

Jesus has Risen!  He has risen indeed!

PTL (How *do* you draw a picture of something that is not there?... #EmptyTomb !)

Jesus, who you are looking for, is not here.  He has risen from the dead!  Now, quickly, go and tell his disciples.  And they ran to give the most amazing report ever!   🤍🤍, Platy and SST  (((( 🤗Celebratory hugs for you! 🤗 all of you! and you and you and... 🙂  You need another hug?  Okay 😁  Hug Hug Hug!))))
