My boyfriend cries only infront of god

Hello there ! I’m Mandy

I’ve been in a LDR for almost two years now. I spend every possible second of the free time I have with my boyfriend who is from another country and he is a devoted catholic where as I am a Buddhist.

us being in a relationship has never used to have an issue regarding coming form different cultures or religions. I have grown to appreciate his and so does he. But given the light of a recent situation where he said that he only cry infront of god and I’ve never caught him crying informer of me more than once bothers me a lot

he is a good man , he’s there for me everytime and I’d like to return the gesture by being there at his lowest. But he says he’s not used to cry infront of people and when I tried to talk about it he said that I should be happy that he shares that he cries. It isn’t a sign of strength to cry in front of anyone , specially for a man is what he said. He also said he will not talk about it again.

It makes me feel like a useless girlfriend when I can’t be there for him at his lowest. What should I do? Is this something normal that all guys do?

@quickwittedHouse8347 i hear you, house. wanting to be there for your partner is understandable, and i totally understand that. but it seems his views on strength and masculinity are that men are not allowed to show emotions and cry in front of other people. unfortunately, if he is not willing to see things in a different way and work towards being vulnerable around you, there is not much to do. we cannot force someone to show vulnerability if they do not wish to do so, nor force them into the way we see things.

I understand that he has a different view on things. I just think it’s sad that he feels like he doesn’t have a support system other than religion. Though I’m nothing compared to god, I hope one day he will realize I can help him process his emotions too. Thank you for your words. 😊
