This is an appreciation message to you, Glen, but also to the 7 Cups experience as a whole.

I've been here almost exactly one year now, on and off at various times as member and listener. I found your site going through Tumblr of all places, when I had just started coming down with depression and didn't really feel I had anyone to turn to.
7 Cups seemed perfect. 7 Cups seemed like the sanctified haven I desperately wanted without even realizing it, a place that promised compassionate listening and the freedom from judgment. I checked out the support rooms first because those seemed the most approachable, and I felt absolutely welcomed. It was so... genuine. Everyone helped out each other, everyone had a story to tell, people joked around and connected with each other, asked for and gave support, and I wanted to join in.
And after a few people had thanked me for helping them, I felt encouraged to become a listener.

It's hard to describe the experience, or what I'm even trying to say. But I think in essence, I met some of the most inspiring people I have known through this site. The majority were members I talked to as a listener, and I cried and laughed for them, for the stories they had to tell, for the brilliance and admirable cores of their personalities, for the small triumphs they were happy to share with me amid all the dark times they needed support. I don't think I could call them friends, exactly, because I wasn't sharing much on my end. But in the limited manner through which I knew them, they were dear to me.
And admittedly, I saw refractions of myself in them. When I was venting as a member, distractedly searching for some form of validation, some sort of understanding, *something*, I used my members' words and the perspective I had while I was listening to them, to clarify my own emotions and combat negative thoughts (or try to). One member frequently talked about their teacher and how supportive he was, and I think that in part led to me eventually opening up to my own teachers and counselor. I dared to call a suicide hotline when I had suicidal thoughts, because I'd done research on ones all over the country and outside for members, and if I wouldn't even use a resource, why would I recommend it to others?

Back and forth I went, using 7 Cups as a member in my bad moments, being a listener when I felt collected. The last year of my life is inseparably intertwined with this site. I showed 7 Cups chat logs to my family in an attempt to explain why I was struggling, when I was too freaked out to actually speak. I argued with my parents to defend the helpfulness of this place and my reasoning for being on here, when they felt it wasn't the healthiest.

And well, 7 Cups wasn't the absolute haven I'd hoped it would be. It's a very human site, and using the most cliche analogy, humans aren't perfect. I've had and have my fair share of complaints about 7 Cups, but in the end, they can't outweigh the sheer influence the mere *existence* of 7 Cups has had on my life and that of others. And I'm awed at how many changes have been made and how much it's been growing in the short span of a year. I can only hope it will grow ever closer to its founding vision.

It's a powerful idea, a "Rivendell" that stretches worldwide. You're amazingly ambitious to have sacrificed so much to create this startup.

Thank you for creating this site, Glen. Thank you for all of the time and resources and effort you have put into getting this movement going. Gratitude is small repayment, but I hope some day you will see your dream and the goal you had in mind attained and surpassed.

Everyone on 7 Cups - Hey guys, I know this is meant to be anonymous but i don't often do what I'm told. Its Joe and by the time you'll read this I'll have probably left the site! :'( I want to tell you a few things:
1- I love you all and will never stop thinking of how amazing you all are
2- have courage. Problems come and go! You're strong when you are weak.
3- things happen for a reason. You may not realise it at first but they do. You just need to keep an open mind
4- try to have fun. Laugh. Eat cookies. Watch funny videos. Play with toys (I like Lego!).
5 - the future is yours! I've left to focus on mine. But you can do great things in your life. Have a family. Write a book. Own a business. Etc....

Bye guys, I love you all very much. I'll try to keep you guys up to date with my life. See you in the future, Joe, Joey, Bob, spoey, jia, bae, bff, Joseph + whatever else you know me as xx

To group moderators ​- So, I think every moderator deserves a shoutout. Without you and your amazing powers the groups would be crazy and not very good. All the mod hate you guys get makes me sick. You guys are just some amazing, inspiring, silly, helpful, talented human beings who are trying to make a difference in this community! Mods deserve love not our hate. You all are very strong; going through all the stress you must deal with and the hate but for 2016, I hope we destroy mod hate and create mod love!
