Mindfulness Daily Check-In December 28, 2017
Hello everyone! Since it is the holiday season, I though about sharing a tip to practice mindfulness during holidays.
Food is a huge part of the holidays. First off, theres tons of it. Second, it tends to be rich: cakes, pies, pot roasts, casseroles, cookies.
Deep communion around food is a huge part of what makes the holidays awesome, but its also easy to overeat. So one thing we can try and do is slow down at the holiday food trough. Its simple and is one of the best weapons in mindfulness tool chest. When your eyes go wide at the site of that buttery apple crisp, just slow down and check in.
Do I really want this now?" And if so, respect your stomach and take a measured portion. Even a quick check-in like that can keep you from eating yourself into painful or dulled-out state.
But more to the point, Ive learned how powerful it is to slow down and enjoy the food. Eating slowly is one of the more ecstatic mindful exercises. Its a way to ground yourself in the present moment wherever you are. It brings you back to your body and root. And an added benefit, its also the best way to moderate portions.

HIya Zay so love this check-in-as me is having a lot of issues with this I got so much junk food wrapped around gifts or in a stocking-like I don't know what to do with it-lol It got me so overwhelmed I cleaned my whole room and organized it all. Putting all the junk food on top of my safe in the closet. I did how ever throw away half my stocking junk tho.
I did fine on Christmas eating. Didn't fully eat but just put a little of things on my plate which made a ful plate. I however did go back on the potatoes and butter buns I had to be mindful the next day tho as I wanted more of that rich food, knowing it was making me sick. Eating mindfully isn't as easy as typing words on here I say. Again thank you for this wonderful check-in Zay as I have another dinner thing to go to in a few days!!
@RumpleSteeleSkin -- mmmmmm, potatoes
I have been trying to do mindful eating for the past couple weeks. One way I've told helps is putting your eating utensil down each time you take a bite.You should also chew your food 25 times. A nutritionist at a crave control group I go to said that the more you chew your food the more rich it becomes and you can taste the flavor more.
@brunettebabe676
HI Babe Wow I didn't know about putting the fork/spoon down after each bite. I'm gonna do that today and see how it works. Also with the 25 chewing's hmmm I know I don't eat like that but this to gonna really try today-thank you
@RumpleSteeleSkin
you're welcome! I hope you enjoy it!
@brunettebabe676 that's a great suggestion. i will try that!
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
Hope you enjoy it!

I never really thought about mindful eating before. I just keep stuffing myself all christmas long because I tell myself I can. It's the holidays after all. But I guess I could be more mindful about it, at least just to enjoy it more. There's people working hard on that food after all, and I just swallow it, hardly tasting anything.
Thanks for bringing this idea to my attention, I'm going to work on this
@Zayb4you14 this is so appropriate to this time of the year. I try to eat only when I am hungry or low energy and stay away from rocket fuel foods like sugar and starches. Try to eat many veggies, tofu, other proteins, and low carb so I do not get that rocket ship effect of blasting off from carb high and then crashing afterwards.
When I take time and taste the food I do not have to eat as much. It is much more enjoyable. Hot peppermint tea is a nice way to cap off a meal or snack and relax and appreciate this moment.

Yeah, I know Zay. Awesome check in!
I know it is natural to over eat during holidays and overeating really trouble the tummy later. Especially sleeping.
I experienced it earlier so now I keep things in check so that I dont prone for indigestion.😊
So better to be mindful about what you eat and how much.
