GlenM August 26th, 2020

Please note: In order to successfully complete Course 3, you must respond to this post. Your comment/response should answer the questions/shows that you completed the given activity (if any). Read the post carefully and follow the instructions given. Save your responses to a document that you can later refer to. You will need to copy/paste your response in the course evaluation form at the end of each course to show that you have done the work and to refresh your memory.
-

The first 3 conversations helped us set the foundation for this discussion. The idea that the problem is the path or the obstacle is the way comes from the Stoics. If interested, I also recommend this book as a good overview of stoic thinking. I think there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in these ancient ideas. I'm glad to see much of it resurfacing now. ÃÃÂ

This disucssion is the most important discussion in this course. This is the core insight to learn for your own personal and professional development as well as the key insight that will continue to help us grow and evolve at 7 Cups. Please really take your time to think through these ideas. They matter and they are meaningful. These ideas can help change the trajectory of your life.

Here are the questions:

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread. ÃÃÂ

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video. ÃÃÂ

Please add the following message to the button of all discussion posts

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread. ÃÃÂ

1.Face your problem instead of having denial attitude

2.Using Aunt Maggie as metaphor for problem I love it. The way it is explained is enlightening.

Problems teach you to open up and care, from your heart, for other people. I have found that people who have been through a lot in life tend to be people that provide the most love and support to other people.

3.When you do focus on problem – open to them, accept them, and solve them – you are rewarded with new insight and growth.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video. ÃÃÂ

It well explained that we cant control what is going to happen or what is happening but we have control how we react to it.

So we should focus on what is in our control. Take problem as an opportunity to learn and growth rather waste time into anlaysis deep or blaming zone.

Secondly, it point

Perception – how we look problem –something that is horrible, unfair, scary or anxiety instead of accepting “it is what it is” or consider an opportunity.

Action – To take action toward problem instead of running or denial it.

Will- we don’t control how thing going to happen or people react. So understanding things that bigger than us . Accepting..embracing things that happen.

At the end everything that happen encourage, excellence in life.

Problems are teachers and can be used as learning opportunities. Also, life is like a video game, we have to master each level before moving on. Third is that problems break us out of denial and can help us

- turn the obstacle into the path with by perception, action, and will

- Perceive the situation accurately and act appropriately

- strengthen the will to overcome the obstacle

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

- To break free from denial and distraction we need to face our problems. This will involve emotional pain and struggle.

- Problems however aren’t necessarily bad. It’s about framing which means I don’t have many problems but rather I have many gifts.

- Don’t ignore Aunt Maggie. In other words, accept and deal with your problems. They are the best teachers of compassion.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

- Perception: this is the story we tell ourselves i.e. how we frame what’s happening to us will have a great impact on how we feel about it and ultimately deal with it.

So, when we view problems as being bad, then we associate with all types of negative feelings.

- Action: meaning we do something about our problems i.e. we deal with them rather than putting them in the back burner.

- Will: this refers to things in our life we don’t have control over. With these we need to understand that there are certain things beyond our control and accept it.

Hello Everyone!

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.
The three key points from Chapter 4 that stood out to me are:
~Problems break down denial: It can help us to face the problem and take action to change the situation.
~Problems teach you to ask for help: They teach you humility. . They require you to be vulnerable. Leaning on others and asking for help is a skill just like any other skill. This could greatly strengthen the relationships, trust, and openness between each other.
~Problems help you level up and teach you to open up and care, from your heart, for other people: We do not grow when things are going well, we grow when things are challenging. Problems are the key ingredient in personal growth, also, It is deeply meaningful to be part of the solution in someone else’s life. Problems teach you compassion like nothing else does.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.
Three key components from the video are:
~Perception: The way we look/view situations/problems. How we view the problem matters a lot.
~Action: What do we do, what are the actions we can take, and the action we take to solve the problem. Through actions, we control our reaction to the problems we face. It would be great to take action with creativity, persistence, and ingenuity.
~Will: This is looking at the parts of the problem that we cannot control, it is building the inner fortitude and strength.

Thank You!

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

All of these points stick out to me equally. They stick out to me equally because they are all interconnected to create the bigger picture. The bigger picture is to get past our denials by breaking out of our distractions and facing on our problems so that we can level up and all the while we have openness of ourselves and compassion for others.

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video. ÃÃÂ

He stated that we need to get past the victim mentality and to look at our past and present life experiences as learning opportunities and opportunities for growth. By looking at them this way, it gives us the positive attitude, strength and courage to move forward and make progress in our lives. Also, not only having these particular attributes are helpful and necessary to have in our lives, but we need to put them into practice and implement them as well.

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you.

1. Problems are valuable. If you give them your patience and understanding, they will actually gift you with new realisations. In other words, Problems break down denial and reveal to us our true self. When this happens, Problems takes you out of the entrap of the distraction systems.

2. Problems teach you to seek help from others, thus teaching you humility.

3. Solving problems changes you as you realise your new strengths.

4. Problems teach you to open up and care for other people.

In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

1. Objective Judgement (Perception) - Perceiving the problem for what it is, not amplifying it.

2. Unselfish Action (Action) - Acting for what we is in our control.

3. Willing Acceptance (Will) - Acceptance for what is not in our control.

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

One, problems break down denial. They force us to change and accept the reality.

Two, and this is the most important, problems teach us to ask for help and tells that not every problem can be solved alone. They teach us humility. They require us to talk to someone and to be vulnerable. They teach us that being alone is not an option.

Three, problems break us out of the distraction systems. They refuse to leave us alone. They will not let our mind rest until we have dealt with them

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.

The three components are:-

Perception- perception is how we look at the problems. if we see them as threats or as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Action- action is how we respond to the problem and what do we do to solve them.

Will- There are some things that we can control and some that we cannot. We mostly worry about things we can't control. We should try to accept that everything that happens to us. There's a chance to improve our life.

1. Problems helps to grow-: Life isn't easy. We all face problems in our lives. But, the problems makes us to be more stronger than before by solving them. We can't ignore every problem. We have to solve it and need to focus on a change. It helps us to grow and to be strong. Problems are gifts which helps us to shine and glow ✨

2. Problems break down denials-: Problems helps us to reduce denials. We can't deny everything in our lives. We have to face difficult situations and need to solve our problems.

3. Problems are teachers-: Problems really teaches us so many things. Like-:

1) Problems teach us to ask for help. We can't solve every problems own our own. We need to discuss with someone which helps us to solve the problem.

2) Problems teach us to open up and to help and care about others. After getting help when we see others in similar situation we should help them. They teach us to care about others and to help them in solving their problems.

1. Perception-: Instead of blaming on what happened we should try to focus on what to do next. Nothing is going to change in the past. So it's better to work on what we have now.

2. Action-: Try to utilize your creativity and talents to make your work better than before. Don't think about past actions.

3. Will-: We should accept those things which are not going to be chang ever or we don't have control on it. So, try to work on those things which we can change.

I just love this concept. I never try to see my problems as gifts. But now I will. Problems are really used to grow in our life. It makes us to learn something. It gives us new experiences and moreover by solving our problems we can try to help others too ❤

Hey there, Love! I like your response, it is very detailed! I like how you call problems as teachers who teach us some important things. I agree and appreciate that you mentioned sharing problems to be good and how it creates a good bond between people where they care for each other! I am glad you love this concept. I haven't had the best view about problems in the past. I personally believe that we cannot choose to not suffer or not have problems, but we can try to make something out of it. Thank you for sharing!

1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.
- there is no real way to go around your problems, sometimes they solely exist so that we can solve them and learn through them, they make you a better person and serve as a learning opportunity
- problems teach us to ask for help and truly learn to ask for help from other people. this helps in creating that need-based relationship we have as humans and helps build a greater sense of community
- dealing with problems helps instill understanding, patience, and tolerance. just like we would not really prefer Aunt Maggie to stay for that long, if we do try to listen to it truly, we may learn valuable things

2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.
- Perception. You have a choice of HOW you choose to view something even though you cannot choose WHAT happens. "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at, change." Don't see setbacks/obstacles/problems as the name suggests. They can be beautiful opportunities to do better!
- Disciplined Action. To respond with creativity and ingenuity to the things that happen to you and around you. The action you take to grab the learning opportunity for yourself and do better.
- Disciplined Will. Things we don't control should be accepted, to develop the understanding of how so many things are just always going to be out of our control. We can re-focus and realize whether or not we can change things by how we are trying to.

You can't give your life more time, so give the time you have, more life.
