The first 3 conversations helped us set the foundation for this discussion. The idea that the problem is the path or the obstacle is the way comes from the Stoics. If interested, I also recommend this book as a good overview of stoic thinking. I think there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in these ancient ideas. I'm glad to see much of it resurfacing now. ÃÃÂ

This disucssion is the most important discussion in this course. This is the core insight to learn for your own personal and professional development as well as the key insight that will continue to help us grow and evolve at 7 Cups. Please really take your time to think through these ideas. They matter and they are meaningful. These ideas can help change the trajectory of your life.

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread.

Aunt Maggie and the different ways people deal with her. I think I saw myself as the last person, the one that sits with Aunt Maggie and gets to know her, makes some tea and cookies, sits and listens to her and grows by soaking up the knowledge. I have to get to know problems inside and out and really unpack them so I can understand how to deal with them in the future if I come across them and also so I can teach others how to avoid them or deal with them in a better way.

1) PERCEPTION - how we look at life and it's inherent problems. There is always a different view, Changing perception can really help to change our thoughts.

2) ACTION - What we can do. What we can't do and also what we feel we can do.

3) WILL - The mind is such a powerful thing. We can do more than we think we can. Like the little train puffing up a long hill "I think I can, I know I can, I can, I Can I CAN!"

I also loved Edison watching the fire!

1- we collectively tell ourselves that things are not as bad as they are because we don't want to face the challenges.

2- the only way to face our problems is to truly care for others

3-problems are the key ingredient in personal growth

The three key components are observation, proactiveness, and acceptance. It is important to be objective about a situation, to take action that's beneficial to you and everyone else, and to accept what you cannot control.

First, framing is everything in terms of your perception of both life and problems we encounter in life.

Second, distraction is only a temporary means of escaping a problem. A problem is not going to go away until we face it head on.

Third, people who have experienced deep problems in their own lives have a deeper sense of care and compassion for others who are struggling. We have a deeper empathy for the difficulties someone can encounter on their path.

First, perception. No problem is inherently good or bad. It is our own perception that leads us to choose how a problem is framed. Your reaction is based on the framework of your own perception.

Second, action. In order to solve a problem, we need to control our reactions, view each problem as an opportunity, and take some kind of action. Action can involve playing to our own strengths as well as through the practice of courage and patience.

Third, will. Will is your inner strength and fortitude. Its knowing that problems will arise and embracing the idea that the difficulties we face make it possible to achieve greatness.

First thing that i learned from chapter 4 is that the only way to break free is by facing our problem and learn to trulyy care for others.

Problems are gifts, they have disguides values.

If you are a more enlighted person, who faces the problem, listen to what it has to say and analyse it, you can get to great heights by uncovering deep lessons life is trying to teach you.

1. perseptive : how do we view a problem. our point of view on things has a greater impact on how it affects you. i strongly agree with Abraham Lincoln's words - We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.

2. Action : to do something or respond to the problem in the best way we can, using logical thinking, problem solving skills, creativity, persistence, resources, ingenuity. Action is the part we control about the problem.

3. Will : this is looking at the parts of the problem that we dont control. this include understanding that there are things that are bigger than us and so there are causes that are bigger than us. We need to embrace, accept and love what happened to us, because thats what made up who we are today.

The three key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to me are:

1) Problems have disguised value. Strong and successful people consider problems as gifts.
2) Problems break down our denial, free us from distraction, teach us humility (or the ability to ask for help), they help us level up and teaches us to authentically care for other people.
3) We do not grow when things are going well. We grow when things are challenging and we face and work through our problems.

The three key components about tackling problems and obstacles that Ryan Holiday outlined in his book are: Perception, Action and Will.

Perception. While facing obstacles and challenges in our life, we should be objective in our analyses of the problems we face. We should not get overwhelmed by or let subjective emotions like anger, fear, frustration, sadness etc. soil our analyses for the problems or challenges we face. We should focus on objectively defining what the problem is and what we should do overcome them.

Action: Here we should focus on what we control. Through actions, we control our reaction to the problems we face. While taking action in order to overcome the problems or challenges we face, we should use everything that we have to the best of our ability through using creativity, persistence and ingenuity. We should desist from being selfish and unethical.

Will: Here we should focus on things which we don't control. We should focus on our purpose of life and the bigger challenges. We should focus on accepting the things that happened to us, our weaknesses, and the things which we don't control. After willingly accepting and understanding the things which we don't control, we should focus on building our inner fortitude and strength, and should practice courage, excellence and patience.

The first key point: Problems teach you to open up and care, from your heart, for other people.

The second point: Problems help you level up

The third point: Problems break down denial

Perception: This is how we see or describe the problem.

Action: facing problems and turning obstacles into opportunities

Will: Acceptance of the things that we cannot change. Seeing things that happen to us as something that makes us stronger.
