Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)
We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â
There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â
1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â
2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

Did the 3 key things!
Thinking about what people will say about me at the end of my life here wasn't something new to me, so it's because more comfortable to think about. I think as long as I continue being kind and growing, I will be more than proud of myself and my life <3

A: I love to help people and when I discovered 7 cups I realized that this app can actually make a difference. The day that I got cups I realized I wanted to help people on here so I started to make an account, when I learned about the roles here on cups I applied for some, I started to help 7 cups to move forward in multiple ways such as: being a peer listener, being a room supporter, I became a verified listener and a listener verifier, and in the future I might want to take a few more roles that I’m interested in.

A: This exercise hitted home and it got me off guard for a bit. I have no idea what people will say about me in the future but I know that I’ve met some good people in my life and that I’m happy and lucky that I’ve met them.
Person one - my husband: It’s been around 69-70 years since I’ve met you, thank you for coming into my life and that we had the chance to love and marry each other.
Person two - my child: hey mom, it’s hard to see you like this but I want you to know that I really love you and that I’m lucky that you're my mom.
-
Person 3 - my friend: we’ve known each other for years, and I want you to know that I’m happy that I’ve met you. The memories we shared and the stuff we talked about it‘s something I won’t forget.

Q: Why is this goal of choosing a single metric is important?
A: So I can focus on that single thing and help the community forward by focusing on it

It is important to choose a single metric as it will help us focus on a particular goal!

The exercise definitely helped me think about some things that I wanted to avoid thinking about. Thank you for the exercise!

i.) Positive exchange with other leaders from the community during the orientation session at the academy hub earlier today.
ii.) Making appointments and talking with members about their mental health concerns.
iii.) I invested some personal time learning and answering questions to further my understanding in the LDP course
The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it helps you focus and reduces stress, confusion, and it's easier to get things done.

I hope they will say that I have been a useful person to society and have lived a full life.
@GlenM
1. Time and energy management. Having a one key metric help us guide whenever we're are lost or in confused about what to do next.
2.I imagined people coming there and thinking of the many memories that I shared with them. I thought of how they would talk about how I lived my fullest doing the best in everything I ventured, and I stayed afloat even when the tides were rough.
It impacted me a lot, because it gave me a clear cut idea of what I wanted to do to be where I want to be.

Why is this goal of choosing a single metric is important?
as we are able to focus and develop it slowly .
Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, share what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you.
rather not to share the details but , this exercise had a huge impact on me and made me to think deeply about it. It's a powerful way understanding what is truly important to me.
@StarrrGirl20
I want to focus on listening to 3-5 members a week so that I can keep reaching members that are in need instead of 1 member for the whole week.

The key matric is time management (life management).
Time management is extremely important for me so that I can have the opportunity to fulfill my work without getting drained or procrastinating my job.

I imagine my mom to say, "my daughter never goes away, she touched so many lives and will always do. She struggled herself, but always been there for me. I'm better for knowing her. Better for having her. She lived a happy meaningful life."
I imagine my best friend to say, "Jane my best friend is a true friend. A true friend is never gone. She was happy with her life. Her happy memories live in our hearts and minds. She was the family that I never had, her accomplishments are never forgotten."
- I can't think of anyone else :') - these are the most that I care about -
