@Heather225
1. Gossiping doesn't make others understand something about the person we're referring to, it makes them understand something bad about ourselves. Gossip is bad because someone may judge someone else from only one fact, spread a rumor that is not true and make the person feel very bad about themselves. It can do no good, instead, it causes damage to the person, to ourselves and the community.
2. I don't know the other person's perspective so I preffer to not discuss what they were thinking or feeling.
Please watch this video
1. Why is gossiping bad?
Gossiping makes a very negative atmosphere. It also tarnishes the reputation of the person that is not present that is being talked about. It also can have the unintended consequence of making the listener to gossip be afraid you are gossiping about them behind their back.
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
Say I do not know what the person said and in what context so I cannot comment. Change the topic to other positive topics.
3. ร Please reply to 3 of your peers ร in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
@soulsings
Great answer! ๐๐
@soulsings Thanks for sharing this ~ :D
@soulsings
I loved your answers, Soul! :)
Especially the first one- it captures all the important points as to why gossiping is bad
@Heather225
1. Why is gossiping bad?
Because it focuses on negative things, and takes an approach to make yourself look good or better than someone who is not there to speak up for themselves. And it leads to the people in the conversation not trusting each other because of the things being said about someone else - who is saying what about who when they're not around?
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
I don't know enough about the situation, so I don't want to guess about what they were thinking or deciding.
@Skyglider
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. Your point about trust is a good one, and shows why it's really important that gossipping is discouraged on 7 Cups as trust is part of the 7 Cups culture we learnt about a few discussions ago.
@Skyglider
These are definitely true!
@Heather225
1. Why is gossiping bad?
Gossiping not only puts another person in a situation where they cannot defend themselves but also makes us be associated with negativity.
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
I don't know enough of the situation to comment on it
@Grace8402
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic, I think your answer to question 1 is perfect, simple but absolutey gets the message across =)
@Gozzil
Thank you so much! ๐
1. Why is gossiping bad?
Gossiping is bad because not only can it be harmful to the people who are being spoken about behind their backs, but it also gives the people we are gossiping with a negative view of ourselves.
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
Not a statement exactly, but my favourite strategy is to compliment the person being talked about and stand up for them. It can be hard but I feel it's the right thing to do.
@Gozzil
I loved how you mentioned the strategy to compliment people, Gozzil! I liked that too. It can be hard to do it but I'm sure we'll learn with time :)
@Gozzil
I love that you are taking the positive road of complimenting the person, not only stopping the negativity but speading positivity too!
@Gozzil
Well said
@Gozzil
The a fine way to put it. Enjoyed reading your take.
So true, gossiping does make ourselves look negative ! @Gozzil
@Gozzil
I love your personal input into this, well done and well said, that`s so accurate <3
@Gozzil
I agree with you on complimenting them.
Well said @Gozzil
@Gozzil
Well said! Awesome response!
@Gozzil
I appreciate that you highlighted such a agreat point from the video. The strategy of complimenting the person being spoken about is clever and a great way to diffuse gossip!
Best of luck on your LDP Journey!
@Gozzil you are right it might be difficult to stand up for the right thing but its very rewarding
@Gozzil agreed!
Your strategy of complimenting others and stand up for them is really amazing. I hope that with time, I too learn this.
1. Why is gossiping bad?
Gossiping can and will temper our negative emotions and bring out the worst in us. It is bad because it is unnecessary and hurtful. When we gossip, we are fertilizing our minds with toxicity and judgment.
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
"I don't know the other person's side, so I prefer not to discuss anything about what they're thinking or feeling in their absence."
@anotherfrenchtoastmafiaa
You went with a statement similar to mine about the person being absent and unable to defend themselves. I'm glad you found that as impactful as I did ๐ Great answer you clearly thought about it ๐๐
@anotherfrenchtoastmafiaa
The pretty well and concise.
@anotherfrenchtoastmafiaa
I completely agree with your answers!
Good job! Yay!
@Heather225
Gossiping results in negative thoughts for everyone. Instead say you don't know enough about the situation to comment about it or say something you like about the person.
@lovelyParadise7651
I liked your answer, Paradise! It was short and to the point! :)
@usefulSummer3139
Thank you ๐
@lovelyParadise7651
It did offer me new take on the idea.
1. Gossiping is bad as its intention is to put someone downโto make them look bad, in order to make the gossiper seem good by comparison.
2. Sticking up for the person who is being gossiped about helps demonstrate both your character and theirs. It can help shut down the gossiping and allow an opportunity to move onto a different subject
@Dinohorus
Yes, it definitely helps both their character as well as ours to grow positively.
Amazing answer
@Heather225
1. Why is gossiping bad?
It's bad because it hurts the person being talked about, and it also hurts you. It's a two-way street which causes absolutely no benefit to the people involved.
2. List a statement you learned from this video to stop gossiping in the replies!
I liked the statement-
"By not participating in gossiping you will shine! People will take notice and admire you for not doing it."
Also, I liked how she provided alternate conversation topics!
@usefulSummer3139
great answer :) I liked how you talked about it being a 'two way street' and that it not only negatively affects the person being talked about but also the person who is gossiping.
@usefulSummer3139
Yes the fact you will shine is really a lovely thought isn't it. Great line to pick up on ๐
@usefulSummer3139
Well said! I like how you mentioned it as a two way steet
@usefulSummer3139
I found the alternative conversation starter nice too, Summer! It was really aweseome that the video creator took the time to consider how else we can steer the conversation to avoid gossiping. Thank you for sharing!
Gossiping is bad because it can make not only the person you are speaking about look bad but it also reflects badly on you as a person too.
the statement that suck with me from the video was "The person isn't present and is therefore unable to defend themselves" and this isn't a fair way to treat someone, everyone should get a chance to rebtuttle any accusations in my opinion
@Azalea98
I like your response and I agree how it actuallys creates a negative image about the one gossiping too
@Azalea98
You're absolutely right! It's not fair to criticise someone when they're not given a chance to explain what happened form their own perspective. It only breeds misunderstandings and negativity. Thank you for sharing!
@Azalea98
Well said! I completely agree with your response!
