Hello everyone,

If you are reading this, it means you have come a long way in your leadership training. Kudos to you for all the effort and resilience you have shown! It is amazing how you all are open to learning and adapting to new environments: the environment of leadership!

Before we zoom in and talk more about learning and adapting, lets zoom back out first and talk about how you feel about leadership. Regardless of how you see yourself, there is a leader within you. The one who visualizes how things could have run in a better way if you were in the leading spot. Leading spot here means:

A desire for change;

Believing you got the abilities to make it happen;

Visualizing success while keeping in mind the bigger picture.

To lead others effectively, you need a good blend of 4 broad competencies area

H_ckCipCkpMoTvvo6__aXBnWAr1QZI13_T5uugP134h9_q7-qeAa1_FbkocnQA9EQXQ12hRWEhFehSDP6kRw9AblAxgYpY6LI8TUwWa55L2DB7LiMRrYI1KaSCp_uyXyjqBBoM1i

If you have a surplus amount of knowledge on how to lead but not a good emotional quotient (EQ), you will find it hard to tackle leadership challenges. Having a good EQ is as important as having the right skills, and if you have skills but not the right attitude and values, you won't be able to achieve your full potential as a leader. Your attitude and values impact how others view you as a leader. We need an alignment in all 4 areas.

You have your very own leadership style based on your competency level. So, the next step is to label your original leadership style. Because you can switch to any leadership style with deliberate effort, thought, and adaptation.

Daniel Goleman categorizes leadership approaches in 6 broad styles. Authoritative, Coaching, Affiliative, and Democratic help one to promote harmony and positive outcomes while Coercive and Pacesetting styles of leadership need to be used in specific situations as they could cause tension.

Your original style could be one of them. So for the purpose of this course, we are going to use a leadership style test to help you identify your core competencies. In brief, we are using the test here to help you identify your leadership approach. So, when you know how you approach an event, you could think and put efforts to bring a change in it. It will allow you to polish your strengths and focus to improve in other different areas as well.

Lets get started!

- Please take the leadership style test here: https://www.energir.com/blogue/en/at-work/quiz-what-kind-of-leader-are-you/

Next step, below in the comments of this discussion, share

1. What is your leadership style?
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?
4. Please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread!

After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here! You must take part in the brainstorming/activities given in all of these posts to successfully complete the program.

Great quiz, thankyou !

According to this quiz my leadership style is Affiliative
2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

I feel I knew these qualities about me, like I am a good motivate and can encourage a healthy working environment where all feel supported and acknowledged but something different and good was that, as an affiliative leader I'll be able to support someone ease into working in a team, who's usually an autonomous worker .
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?

Something I'd like to improve upon as a leader would be to be more direct and enforce stronger boundaries.

1. What is your leadership style?

You are a pacesetting leader

You have a very demanding leadership style, but a bit less so than the commanding leader. You aim for excellence and you ask no less of others. You have no patience for people who do not match your pace or perform less efficiently. In other words, you always want more and better. Your greatest strength lies in getting very quick results from a highly motivated and competent team. People who work with you show a lot of respect for you.

2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

I learned that I am very demanding and set high standards for myself and others.
3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?

I would like to give myself and others room to grow instead of expecting so much right off the bat

1. What is your leadership style?

Affiliative leader

2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

Interestingly, my greatest strength lies in my ability to ease tensions or motivate all my team members during difficult periods. This means I have the leadership qualities vital to ensure successful leadership.

3. What is one thing you would like to improve?

I would say I would like to work on my tendency to get things done on my own, instead of waiting around for others. This has led me far, but it creates a power struggle in a team.

1. What is your leadership style?

Affiliative leader

2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

The one thing I learned about myself through this leadership test is my strength as an affilliative leader. My strength is the ability to ease tensions and motivate my team members when we are going through the challenging times.

3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?

I would like to improve my charisma. Sometimes I am too focused on meeting the needs of every member in the team that I lose focus on what needs to be done by the team as a whole. This is crucial and must be improved as it directly relates to the production of low-quality work.

Hey we are the same type of leader! And I to, sometimes got into same mistake with you that I focus on each individual too much instead of driving the whole team towards progress. Good to catch ourselves and prevent it from happen again.

1. What is your leadership style?

I'm an affiliative leader

2. What is one thing you learned about yourself?

I have the strength to be able to identify people's needs and thus I can find many ways to motivate each individual, help them thrive and also find suitable teamates that match the overall team.

3. What is one thing you would like to improve upon?

Since I strongly believe in the important of working together, therefore when there are conflicts or arguments within the teams, or when I see that people are not talking enough or upfront to each other about certain topics, I would get annoyed easily and get frustrated. I would like to improve this by being calm in those situation and talk to each individual patiently to gather enough information before jumping to a conclusion.

I would like to improve on enhancing my patience and reaching out to help others in the team when they perform less efficiently than what I expected. I think that would be vital to us improving as a team.

I am a visionary leader

I learnt that I can motivate my team in order to make changes and that I don’t need to be a commanding and pacesetting leader to lead my team.

However, I do tend to look too far into the future and over plan everything. One thing I learnt is to just trust in myself, and my vision and work slowly towards the goal. I also learnt that it’s ok to make mistakes as long as one learns from them and grows.

@Heather225

You are an affiliative leader

You have a leadership style that encourages relationships between people, prompting them to work together. Your approach involves focusing on the importance of working together. You also understand the needs of your team and your partners very well, and you try to satisfy them. Your greatest strength lies in your ability to ease tensions or motivate all your team members during difficult periods. You also have a knack for getting people who are accustomed to working alone to work together instead.

I learned that with my compassion and empathy while working together hopefully excels us all to get the job done.

I need to learn how to prioritize my schedule to get things done more
