by DreamTouch
Last post
December 9th
...See more Hello LDP trainees 💜 Exciting news! We now have two options available for you to graduate with honors. Here are the updated options: Option 1:  Getting an honor role  So what tracks comes under honor roles? - Chatroom Mentor - Quality Mentor - Teen Chatroom Mentor - Teen Quality Mentor - Community/Forum Mentor - Support Team Leader - Academy Mentor - SPOT Team Member If you already have these roles, no need to do anything! You will automatically be considered for honors and your certificate will reflect the same. Anyone who comes into the LDP with a leadership role is strongly recommended to look through and apply to become a mentor! Like we know, with great power comes great responsibility. So please only carefully apply for these roles as they do involve serious commitment to the community and the wellbeing of it.  Option 2 - Sharing your testimonial Write a testimonial post/article on Linkedin or Medium about your experience in Leadership Development Program, following the instructions detailed here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fgWX4hDVfYdadEt2npDCm6dhaebTfbyFCJLjtgw4WTM/edit?usp=sharing]. Reflect on your journey, articulate your growth, and share insights that can inspire others! If you've chosen this option as an elective, you can complete your testimonial on a different platform than your elective. Please note that you cannot use the same post or platform for both your Honors and elective submissions. If you have any questions regarding the elective, please feel free to PM a LDP mentor [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/LeadershipDevelopmentTrack_2138/LDPMentorsTeam_240813/]! ------------------------- This post is brought to you by the Leadership Development Program Team, find out more information about the program here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/LeadershipDevelopmentTrack_2138/LeadershipDevelopmentProgramUpdatesAnnouncement_230561/].

It is a learning opportunity based on the teachings of the book ‘Get Together: How to Build a Community with Your People [https://www.amazon.com/Get-Together-build-community-people/dp/1732265194].' The book is written by authors who are experts on community building. We encourage anyone who is interested in community building and management to read the book but it's optional. We have studied the book and summarized the key lessons and their 7 Cups applications. The course will go on for 4 weeks, each week we will look at the findings of two chapters and how the principle knowledge can be applied to 7 Cups. Each week's learning will be accompanied by a quiz to test the knowledge! In order to receive your certificate and the Community Builder badge, you need to complete all quizzes (80% or over-score in all + no copy/pasting for essay questions), and submit the evaluation form. Failure to submit the evaluation form will result in no certificate or badge. Note: Each quiz contains a field where we ask you to apply some of the chapter's teachings. These are essay questions so they are not auto-graded however if a user is found to be copy/pasting the answers to satisfy the word count or not putting in the effort to come up with a relevant answer then the person will not receive a certificate or a badge. This is not a mandatory course so if you choose to take part then please try to study the notes and be honest in your answers. It is the only way to learn! Note:  If you intend to use Artificial Intelligence tools to help you fulfill any of the course’s requirements, you are expected to adhere to our AI policy. You can read it here. Leadership Oath
by GlenM
Last post
Tuesday
...See more The Leadership Oath is an honorific oath that you take as a leader once you have started the Leadership Development Program and completed one course in the program. This commitment to leadership in undertaking the LDP is important because it suggests you are committed to increasing your skills and leveling up your commitment to our community. It also suggests that you deeply care for others and that serving to others is a key part of your identity. If you have enrolled in the LDP, and you have completed at least one course, and you want to make this commitment, then please do the following. Below this post, type out the leadership oath below. Do not cut and paste it. Typing it helps you really think through what you are committing to. Next, at the bottom, sign it with your listener name like this: My (GlenM's) Leadership Oath: Leadership Oath I pledge a moral oath before the 7 Cups community and fellow leaders, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill to the best of my ability and judgment this covenant and undertaking. I will use my gifts, strengths, and talents to serve the 7 Cups community. I will work alongside other leaders and staff to make a measurable impact in my track or domain. I will treat others with dignity and respect. I will not disparage other people or 7 Cups. I will practice high warmth and high expectations for others; this means that I will care deeply for them and I will also expect them to try hard and put in real work that has a tangible impact. I will expect the same from myself and I will hold myself accountable. I will work hard to listen to constructive criticism and feedback. I will strive to look at my own challenges as opportunities to grow and learn as a leader. I will recognize when I don't know something and will ask for help when I need it. I will know my own abilities and limitations. I will grow in knowledge, understanding, and skill, to work collaboratively with leaders and staff. I will continue to try hard and work with perseverance, especially when things are difficult, challenging or uncertain. I will demonstrate teamwork and flexibility by sharing projects and responsibilities with my fellow leaders and understanding that we are working toward a common goal. I understand that I am a leader and I am a part of something bigger than myself. I am honored to serve the 7 Cups community. I will keep this promise as a person of integrity and as a leader, and I will do everything in my power to facilitate the strengthening of other leaders and the broader 7 Cups community. Understanding 7 Cups Culture (LDP Discussion #5)

...See more Please note: In order to successfully complete Course 1, you must respond to this post. Your comment/response should answer the questions/shows that you completed the given activity. Read the post carefully and follow the instructions given. Save your responses to a document that you can later refer to. You will need to copy/paste your response in the course evaluation form at the end of each course to show that you have done the work and to refresh your memory. - Hello Leadership Crew! We are wrapping up the first course today with our last discussion on culture. Look for more instructions in this post to take the final evaluation for the course to your graduation. Once you have this course complete, you will be 20% done the Leadership Development Program. Good work! Let's start by looking at the wikipedia definition of culture: --Culture (/ÃkÃltÃÃr/ [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English]) is an umbrella term which encompasses the social behavior [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_behavior] and norms [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norm_(social)] found in human [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human] societies [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society], as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups.[1] [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture#cite_note-tyor1871-1] We take culture seriously on 7 Cups because it is the heart of how we operate. A wise person once said: You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are. We can have all of the best training content we want, but if our culture is not strong, then we will not be successful in growing a thriving, compassionate, community that will make a global impact. Every organization has a culture whether by design or by default. When culture (including values [https://www.7cups.com/about/values.php] and mission [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GlensNook_84/OurVisionforaBetterWorld_334/OurMission_18219/1/] are not called out or made explicit, the organization defaults to an implicit or unstated culture. The unnamed culture is not always great for the end users or the community. An example of a common and implicit cultural rule or norm is that the person that makes the most money or the organization is the most important. People that work in this organization then, naturally, because it is the culture, start organizing themselves around ways to make more and more money. The ones at the top of the hierarchy are the ones that make the most money. 7 Cups cares less about money and more about compassion. We call out compassion and celebrate compassionate people because that is central to the work we do. Please read our guide here [https://www.7cups.com/about/culture.php] to deeply understand our culture. We have made it explicit because we believe it is important to help us all be accountable to what we stand for and believe in. As leaders on 7 Cups, you will be models that emulate our culture and values. One theme you'll notice in our guide is that it is very proactive, which is the opposite of reactive. We act first, we design first, we implement first in order to make an impact. Companies that react allow events to shape them; we instead try to focus on where we can have influence and shape events before they shape our community. Part of being proactive is critical because building culture online is more challenging than building a culture offline. Offline interpersonal and group relationships are easier in a number of ways. People are generally much better behaved when they are right in front of you and it is easier for people to sync up and work towards a common goal. Online cultures have less of these natural strengths so you have to be extra proactive to build a strong culture. Look at most communities on the Internet. Unfortunately, they tend to devolve and become less than safe places with a lot of hate, sexual, and harmful behaviors. Our training system, the badges, word filters, moderators, etc. (dozens of behaviors we do) are all designed to proactively build and reinforce our culture so that we do not experience this same kind of entropy. Internet culture can be like an escalator going down. You have to be very proactive and take 2 or 3 steps up at a time to maintain and strengthen gains. As a leader on 7 Cups, you will be part of that group that gets behind us and enables us to continue making forward momentum. That provides the broader background context to why we care so much about our culture and values at 7 Cups. They are core to our work. To help make it more real, in this post, please highlight the 3 most important things you learned from our guide [https://www.7cups.com/about/culture.php] and why they are important to you. After posting, please... 1. Take the [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfoXfkBvwYJ3VjBmPZmOIPL3z34m0CaBetFXQUjCVgsrguLCQ/viewform]course exam [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfoXfkBvwYJ3VjBmPZmOIPL3z34m0CaBetFXQUjCVgsrguLCQ/viewform] here to complete course 1. 2. Course 2: Becoming a 7 Cups Leader - (Discussion #1) Welcome to Course 2!

Your comment/response should answer the questions/shows that you completed the given activity (if any). Read the post carefully and follow the instructions given. Save your responses to a document that you can later refer to. You will need to copy/paste your response in the course evaluation form at the end of each course to show that you have done the work and to refresh your memory. - Congrats! You made it the second course in the LDP! In this course, we focus on the specific interpersonal skills needed to be a strong leader on 7 Cups, including mastery of communication skills, time management, conflict resolution, stress management and empowering new leaders. I know if you are here, you have read our values and culture guide. I would like to start off by further emphasizing one value that's required for a leader to be successful here, and that is balancing High Expectations & High Warmth. Work environments with high expectations and minimal warmth tend to result in companies that are very driven, rule-oriented and risk-averse. The people do not tend to grow as much personally or professionally. On the other hand, workplaces that are high in warmth, but have minimal expectations, tend to struggle. Everyone is happy and feels loved, but not a lot of effective or focused work gets done. 7 Cups is high expectations AND high warmth. We expect a lot from you. You might feel like we think you are more capable than other people have suggested or maybe even more capable than how you see yourself. That is okay. Every person on the team has outperformed and done better than they expected. This is largely because warmth, patience, and trust help people make much more progress than they have in other environments. We have high expectations, but we will provide plenty of encouragement and guidance to help you get there. - Question: What do you think happens if you, a 7 Cups leader, have an imbalance of expectations and warmth? How do you think having too low of expectations, or too little warmth, will impact 1.) the community, and 2.) impact how you work with your fellow leaders? Activity: Please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! PL 101: Systems vs. Goals (Discussion 4)

Save your responses to a document that you can later refer to. You will need to copy/paste your response in the course evaluation form at the end of each course to show that you have done the work and to refresh your memory. - Hello Leadership Crew! Welcome to our 4th discussion in this first course. In todays discussion, we will be talking about systems vs. goals. To start, please read this post here [https://jamesclear.com/goals-systems] Â and watch this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwcKTYvupJw]. The basic argument here is that having a system is better than having a goal. A system is a way of behaving that helps you move towards accomplishing something. A goal is usually and end state that happens after you have accomplished something. I think eating healthy is a good example. A goal might be to lose 10 pounds. In this case, you feel kind of bad about yourself until you hit that goal; and then, once you hit it, you kind of lose the purpose because the goal has been reached. If you relapse and gain wait again, then you fall back into feeling bad about yourself again. Contrast this with a system of eating healthy. A system might include things like: having a big glass of water prior to each meal; eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, and nuts; not eating after 9pm; and/or doing some level of intermittent fasting. You wouldnt integrate all of these new healthy eating behaviors at once. Instead, youd gradually introduce one and then another and then another over whatever period of time makes sense. The system enables you to continuously get healthier and healthier. You will eventually reach the goal, but itll be the byproduct of eating healthy. Another example might be education. I dont really care all that much about grades for my kids. I mostly want them to learn and enjoy learning. We talk about what they learn, we draw things, they make their own educational videos, they explain things to me in their own words etc. I want them to have a system of learning and refining their perspective on things. If they have this system, then having good grades will be a natural result of enjoying learning. This also has implications for 7 Cups as well. We might have goals of having a certain amount of group support messages or 1:1 messages. Those are fine goals to have, but we mostly want to create a system of support where people care for one another and then the natural result is an increased number of messages. Or, zooming back, think about this leadership development program. We could have an arbitrary goal of training a certain number of new leaders to serve our community; or we can co-create a system - this leadership development program - that helps people become leaders. The natural consequence of the program will be a higher number of trained, competent, and strong leaders that can better support our community. Â What is a key system that you need to set up in your life to help you succeed? What are 3 behaviors you can implement to help you gradually grow that new system in your life? After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course1PersonalLeadership101_2125/Understanding7CupsCultureLDPDiscussion5_226478/1/]! Save your responses to a document that you can later refer to. You will need to copy/paste your response in the course evaluation form at the end of each course to show that you have done the work and to refresh your memory. - Hello Leadership Crew! I am having a blast with you all. This leadership program is a lot of fun and Im glad we are doing it. I think itll help across many fronts. Shout out to @aleks2 and @quietmagic for their help looking at the first batch of results on our leadership composition. ÃÂ Here is a summary: Here is a summary from @quietmagic on what our collective - all of us together - strengths and weaknesses might be: Leadership Crew Strengths: Altruism/motivation: Having a deep passion for helping people that drives all we do and creates a feeling of purpose and meaning Idealism: Having inspiring dreams and visions of just how unbelievably powerful and beneficial this site can be: imagining all of the good we might be able to create, all of the suffering we might be able to help heal Kindness: Being able to create a kind, cooperative, culture that is gentle and considerate with people's feelings Compassion: Being able to understand, connect with, and feel an urgency to resolve the needs, concerns, or problems of the people that we serve Relationship: Feeling a yearning for deep, meaningful connections with others, creating a community where people are able to be authentic and feel a sense of belongingness Leadership Crew Weaknesses Practical implementation: Developing and optimizing systems, managing the fine details for concretely achieving our broad goals Risk-taking: Being willing to take risks or make drastic changes to existing systems/practices where needed The above analysis feels/seems right to me. This new leadership program in fact can be seen as one way that we are attempting to address a growth area by optimizing our leadership systems! And, zooming back, if there was going to be a team of people that was going to try to pull off the impossible (a free emotional support system), then I think itd be with the leadership composition described above under strengths. Itll take a lot of optimism and kindness to make this a reality! Okay, lets transition to the next exercise and discussion. Begin by taking the Big 5 [https://www.outofservice.com/bigfive/] test and answering the following questions. You can also read more on the Big 5 here [https://www.verywellmind.com/the-big-five-personality-dimensions-2795422] ÃÂ and below. 1. What were the main things you learned about yourself? 2. What are your top 3 strengths according to this test? 3. How can the strengths you identified on both tests help you in your personal life? 4. Course 2: Becoming a 7 Cups Leader - (Discussion #8) When you don't get the role you want

...See more Please note: In order to successfully complete Course 2, you must respond to this post. - Hello, students! Let's talk leadership! Many of you have or will apply for certain roles that interest you! And some times we get it and some times we don't! It can be difficult to find out that we didn't get the role, but we can control how we react to it. Here are some DOs and DON'Ts: - DO talk to the leader of the role that you applied for and get some input on what you can/need to do in order to get the role next time! Be aware though most leaders of these roles are busy so give it some time! - DON'T bring the issue into the support rooms. If you are upset, talking to a peer supporter about how you are feeling is ok! - DO take some self-care, self-care is good for any occasion but its best to deal with those feelings of failure or disappointment outside of 7 cups, things like going on your member account can be so helpful to overcome some of these feelings - DON'T think that you are obligated to stay on 7 cups right after finding out bad news, especially if you are in LSR/TL and you see other listeners who have gotten the role that you wanted! It can be hard to deal with and it can cause unneeded jealousy or hurt on your part! Not everyone is like this but if you think that this is a possibility that you can think this way staying away might be a great option! - DON'T take it personally, everyone is ready at different times. It can be hard for us to realize this but just because someone got the role and they might have been here in less or the same amount of time doesn't mean that you personally are ready! Everyone grows and accomplishes things at different times! - DO get a mentor, in general its a good idea to get a mentor but for things like your goals on 7 cups mentors can be great and helpful! They can give you feedback, do mock chats with you, and overall help you with your goals as I said before! - DON'T think you have to apply for every role and every team out there! There is time you don't have to apply for everything! Its super easy to burnout that way, and that can lead to more "rejection" and hurt that none of us want! *Never let not getting a role the first time discourage you! You will be told when you can apply again and use the feedback that you get to better yourself when you can/decide that you are ready to! practice makes perfect none for us are perfect and no one will ever be! Its a good thing to remember no matter your role as a listener your help is greatly appreciated and you are still helping so many people!* Question: If you find out you were not given a role, how should you respond? What would you say to the leader who has informed you? Activity: Please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course2Becominga7CupsLeader_2126/Course2Becominga7CupsLeaderDiscussion9PassiveAggressiveCommunication_227932/1/]!
