Hello LDP Team!

The problem is the path is the core insight that helps us evolve as individuals and as a community here on 7 Cups.

Here is an overview of this course:

Course Description: It is natural for us to want to avoid problems. Problems can cause worry, anxiety, and frustration. These are feelings that we often want to avoid. Problems, however, are the key to growth. When we face our problems directly we get smarter and grow stronger. A saying that captures this is: Progress = Pain + Reflection. This course helps you learn the value of problems by highlighting the difference between problems you might be concerned about and problems you can directly solve. Next, it walks you through the ancient practice of steering into problems directly in order to unlock their value and gifts. Finally, it helps you identify and measure progress so you can make continued gains in your personal and professional life.

✒️ Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence. Circle of concern: Outside uncontrollable circumstances, fear of failure, stuck in the what ifs. Circle of Influence: Self-love, Unique qualities, resilience. Every day I go over what I'm grateful for and reflect on how far I have come.

✒️ Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive? Instead of complaining about the situation he really tried to work with the strengths and weaknesses as they were. He didn't force anything on anyone. This garnered trust in his word.

Three things in my circle of concern: government changes that strain daily life, the health of a relative in palliative care, dealing with natural consequences.

Three things in my circle of influence: trying to maintain positive relationships with people, self-improvement work, current issues that I have that are difficult but I can manage.

I think this is a skill that for me at least will take a lot of persistence to maintain, and in those cases having a physical written reminder on my wall that I can see daily will help to keep it framed in my mind for future reference.

Many people in the executives place would have resorted to reactive behaviours like gossiping, but here, they remained proactive and instead took a more positive approach to remain productive in the workplace.

Kelly, great insights & I think it is fascinating how using this framework of what is in our control versus outside our control can make us more productive in our lives. It's always rewarding to see the tangible impacts of cognitive techniques like this :)

Circle of concern: 
My mom's negativity
Social unrest
Ignorance displayed by others on social media

Circle of Influence:
Self Doubt Thoughts
My chronic pain 
How I communicate

I can remind myself that it is more worthwhile to focus on the things that I can control and make changes to than the things I have no control of and can't change .

I think what stood out was that how by utilizing his circle of influence he was able to get to the point that no large decision was made in the company without his input. The executive focused his perspective on the things that were under his control, such as anticipating, taking initiative, and empathizing. He read situations, compensated for others' weaknesses, buffered his own team to be resilient against the president's weaknesses, all of these which were proactive.

Three things in my circle of influence career wise are commanding respect from my peers, delegating responsibilities based on my team's strengths, and being funny when necessary to help team be less stressful. Three things in my circle of concern are my inability to understand certain people, being terrible under intense pressure, and poor time management.  I think I try to be funnier to help reduce stress and take things less seriously.  

 The executive was confident and focused in addressing all issues within his team. He listened to his team and also understand what was expected of them.

3 things in my circle of concern are, what people say about me, the environment like global warming and climate change, and my future. 3 things in my circle of influence are my family, hard work, and education. 1 thing I can do to remind myself to focus on my circle of influence is to have a balance in my social and work life to maintain relationships with friends and family.

Something that stands out to me about the executive was how he was able to influence and work on the president's strengths and needs which had an impact on his circle of influence as well. Something they did that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive is that he had shown empathy to the president's concerns to show that he is noticing him and his weaknesses.

Three things in my circle of concern are:

1) What would be my family's reaction about my decision.

2) What will happen if the decision my family is taking for me will be approved. 

3) My health is going down. 

Three things in my circle of influence are:

1) I can do exercise to improve my health. 

2) I can take advice of a trusted person.

3) I should believe on God. 

One thing I can do to remind myself to focus on my circle of influence is:

I can make a note and paste it in front of me like I can paste it on the mirror of my dressing table so that every morning I look at myself in the mirror so the note will remind me to focus on circle of influence.
