Graduate with Honors!
by DreamTouch
Last post
December 9th
...See more Hello LDP trainees 💜 Exciting news! We now have two options available for you to graduate with honors. Here are the updated options: Option 1:  Getting an honor role  So what tracks comes under honor roles? - Chatroom Mentor - Quality Mentor - Teen Chatroom Mentor - Teen Quality Mentor - Community/Forum Mentor - Support Team Leader - Academy Mentor - SPOT Team Member If you already have these roles, no need to do anything! You will automatically be considered for honors and your certificate will reflect the same. Anyone who comes into the LDP with a leadership role is strongly recommended to look through and apply to become a mentor! Like we know, with great power comes great responsibility. So please only carefully apply for these roles as they do involve serious commitment to the community and the wellbeing of it.  Option 2 - Sharing your testimonial Write a testimonial post/article on Linkedin or Medium about your experience in Leadership Development Program, following the instructions detailed here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fgWX4hDVfYdadEt2npDCm6dhaebTfbyFCJLjtgw4WTM/edit?usp=sharing]. Reflect on your journey, articulate your growth, and share insights that can inspire others! If you've chosen this option as an elective, you can complete your testimonial on a different platform than your elective. Please note that you cannot use the same post or platform for both your Honors and elective submissions. If you have any questions regarding the elective, please feel free to PM a LDP mentor [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/LeadershipDevelopmentTrack_2138/LDPMentorsTeam_240813/]! ------------------------- This post is brought to you by the Leadership Development Program Team, find out more information about the program here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/LeadershipDevelopmentTrack_2138/LeadershipDevelopmentProgramUpdatesAnnouncement_230561/].

...See more Hi everyone! Welcome to the final course of the Leadership Development Program. It is a learning opportunity based on the teachings of the book ‘Get Together: How to Build a Community with Your People [https://www.amazon.com/Get-Together-build-community-people/dp/1732265194].' The book is written by authors who are experts on community building. We encourage anyone who is interested in community building and management to read the book but it's optional. We have studied the book and summarized the key lessons and their 7 Cups applications. The course will go on for 4 weeks, each week we will look at the findings of two chapters and how the principle knowledge can be applied to 7 Cups. Each week's learning will be accompanied by a quiz to test the knowledge! In order to receive your certificate and the Community Builder badge, you need to complete all quizzes (80% or over-score in all + no copy/pasting for essay questions), and submit the evaluation form. Failure to submit the evaluation form will result in no certificate or badge. Note: Each quiz contains a field where we ask you to apply some of the chapter's teachings. These are essay questions so they are not auto-graded however if a user is found to be copy/pasting the answers to satisfy the word count or not putting in the effort to come up with a relevant answer then the person will not receive a certificate or a badge. This is not a mandatory course so if you choose to take part then please try to study the notes and be honest in your answers. It is the only way to learn! Note:  If you intend to use Artificial Intelligence tools to help you fulfill any of the course’s requirements, you are expected to adhere to our AI policy. You can read it here. Course 3, Discussion 3: When you don't get the role you want
by FrenchToast
Last post
...See more Hello, students! Let's talk leadership! Many of you have or will apply for certain roles that interest you! And some times we get it and some times we don't! It can be difficult to find out that we didn't get the role, but we can control how we react to it. Here are some DOs and DON'Ts: - DO talk to the leader of the role that you applied for and get some input on what you can/need to do in order to get the role next time! Be aware though most leaders of these roles are busy so give it some time! - DON'T bring the issue into the support rooms. If you are upset, talking to a peer supporter about how you are feeling is ok! - DO take some self-care, self-care is good for any occasion but its best to deal with those feelings of failure or disappointment outside of 7 cups, things like going on your member account can be so helpful to overcome some of these feelings - DON'T think that you are obligated to stay on 7 cups right after finding out bad news, especially if you are in LSR/TL and you see other listeners who have gotten the role that you wanted! It can be hard to deal with and it can cause unneeded jealousy or hurt on your part! Not everyone is like this but if you think that this is a possibility that you can think this way staying away might be a great option! - DON'T take it personally, everyone is ready at different times. It can be hard for us to realize this but just because someone got the role and they might have been here in less or the same amount of time doesn't mean that you personally are ready! Everyone grows and accomplishes things at different times! - DO get a mentor, in general its a good idea to get a mentor but for things like your goals on 7 cups mentors can be great and helpful! They can give you feedback, do mock chats with you, and overall help you with your goals as I said before! - DON'T think you have to apply for every role and every team out there! There is time you don't have to apply for everything! Its super easy to burnout that way, and that can lead to more "rejection" and hurt that none of us want! *Never let not getting a role the first time discourage you! You will be told when you can apply again and use the feedback that you get to better yourself when you can/decide that you are ready to! practice makes perfect none for us are perfect and no one will ever be! Its a good thing to remember no matter your role as a listener your help is greatly appreciated and you are still helping so many people!* ✒️Question: If you find out you were not given a role, how should you respond? What would you say to the leader who has informed you? ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course3Becominga7CupsLeader_2491/Course3Discussion4OneKeyMetric_292696/]! Course 3, Discussion 2: Accepting and Providing Feedback
by FrenchToast

...See more If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video. * View video here [https://youtu.be/6QupnaPvz4Q] Some reasons why accepting feedback is important: * It helps us improve our craft/skills/ourselves * We become aware of our own short comings. * We can learn how others may perceive us. Reasons why it can be challenging to hear constructive feedback: * We might associate it with who we are as a whole. * We may think the person giving it has lost respect for us. * It can hurt our ego. The choice is yours! Are you willing to deal with discomfort for your greater good? If so then constructive feedback is an essential tool you must utilize. Now let's see how to give feedback! If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video. * View video here [https://youtu.be/wtl5UrrgU8c] Steps to give useful feedback: * Sandwich it between genuine positive feedback. * Don’t do it too often. Remember a person can only accept so much constructive feedback before it drains them. Use it sparingly. * Ask yourself what you are communicating is beneficial to the person or your own personal preference. Only provide feedback if it will help the person. Let's practice giving constructive feedback. This is the situation. Username: CoffeePerson198 Positive traits: is punctual, responds in under 24 hours, cares about people and is empathetic. Areas of improvement: Is not completing assigned task for 3 weeks, not communicating with you (the leader) why the task is not being completed. ✒️ You are a leader of the team and have been tasked with giving constructive feedback. Please draft a message of no less than two sentences using the sandwich method (praise + constructive feedback + praise). ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course3Becominga7CupsLeader_2491/Course3Discussion3Whenyoudontgettheroleyouwant_292695/]! Course 3, Discussion 1: Service Leadership at 7 Cups
by FrenchToast
Last post
...See more The term Service leadership [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servant_leadership] (based on the philosophy of servant leadership, in which the main goal of the leader is to serve). Sometimes leaders or community members who help with projects receive high praise for their efforts (and they all deserve it) but this is never to take away or undermine the contributions of listeners who fly a little bit more under the radar. How one chooses to spend their volunteer time on 7 Cups is up to them & we love you all the same! We've long said that if you want to be a mentor, be a mentor, eventually you'll get a badge. These service leadership roles are incredibly important to the functionality of our community. The individuals in these posts do an excellent job helping to keep our community safe and positive. I am very thankful for them. Service leadership is simply about where you plan to spend your time. To those of you out there who focus 100% on member chats, we LOVE YOU! To those of you out there who focus on community programs, we LOVE YOU TOO! All of these contributions are equally valuable and important. As a collective community, our aim is to honor your contributions, no matter where or how they manifest. In this vein, my hope is that you will remember 3 key things: 1. Self-care - always! Make sure self-care is baked into your volunteer work here 2. Don't take on more than you are able. If you don't have the bandwidth to do something, you owe it to yourself and the community to say no. It is 100% okay to say no. (And if you are asking someone to help you with a project, please do not get upset if someone has to say no.) 3. Remember that 7 Cups is an ecosystem. Every single contribution matters! If you'd like to be in a service leadership role, my advice would be: 1. Pay attention to how others are contributing 2. Figure out what gets you excited in the community! 3. Once you have an idea of what gets you excited, dive in! You dont need to have a mentor badge to help out, get involved & start learning. 4. If you're not sure how to get involved, you can chat with a mentor [https://www.7cups.com/listener/listenerMentors.php] or sign up for listener coaching [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd7iMwmOfMPM1KTSjFz3OTPFDOF30agKeBeahUl5cj5f8ahKQ/viewform]. 5. Once you feel comfortable with your area of attention, apply for the appropriate mentor track. ✒️ Question: What do you think of the idea of service leadership? Can you list one example of service leadership you have seen on 7 Cups? ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course3Becominga7CupsLeader_2491/Course3Discussion2AcceptingandProvidingFeedback_292694/]! Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric

...See more It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Please watch this video [https://youtu.be/1IAtvoF_aMk] There are 2 parts to this discussion. ✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/GlensNookCommunity_547/3KeyThings_212456/1/] thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. ✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdatesInformationFortheCommunity_100/Feedback_37/7CupsforthesearchingsoulbookReadandreviewtogetabadge_226942/] and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course3Becominga7CupsLeader_2491/Course3Discussion5DiversityCulturalDifferencesandSecondLanguageLearners_292697/]! ...See more Hi there. With the new Leadership Development Program structure in effect from December 12th 2022, we are now requiring that trainees have to complete at least one elective in order to graduate. We have carefully curated a list of electives relevant to the program and you can find them here: Electives (Pick 1) * Complete the Time Management course [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7CupsAcademy_208/AcademyPrograms_2311/7CupsAcademyTimeManagementCourse_280718/]. You will be given a separate badge and certificate for completing it. * Complete the preventing burnout path [https://www.7cups.com/path/playlist/preventing-burnout-at-7-cups/], and fill out the quiz [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf62nogvEqC6wK7Ok-PtwZrOLLRdydiMnNKbN1RZ66g-aXJgw/viewform] to complete this elective. You will need at least 80% to pass the quiz and complete the elective. * Complete the Inner Development Goals course [https://www.7cups.com/forum/idg/General_2633/InnerDevelopmentGoalsCourse_318284/] and pass the quiz with a minimum of 80%  * Create one testimonial post/article on either LinkedIn or Medium following the instructions outlined in this guide [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v7RLO9OH7pgD2jHhMaqMwSmd4QmIgXilg87xK-fsCTg/edit#heading=h.zunq0nx2lkk]. You will be talking about your experience as a trainee in your program. You are not restricted to one elective, so please feel free to choose as many. However, to graduate only one is required. Once you have decided what elective you want to do, please make sure to select it on the End of Trial form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScobzlKVHOpNyyIcrB7BHM1BzSs8NOXktKa1YC8DHYviQ5CCA/viewform] at the end of your 2-week trial. You will NOT be allowed to change your elective after you have entered it into the form so please choose carefully. We also recommend writing it down somewhere so you remember. If you need guidance, don't hesitate reaching out to a mentor [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/LeadershipDevelopmentTrack_2138/LDPMentorsTeam_240813/]. Leadership Oath

...See more The Leadership Oath is an honorific oath that you take as a leader once you have started the Leadership Development Program and completed one course in the program. This commitment to leadership in undertaking the LDP is important because it suggests you are committed to increasing your skills and leveling up your commitment to our community. It also suggests that you deeply care for others and that serving to others is a key part of your identity. If you have enrolled in the LDP, and you have completed at least one course, and you want to make this commitment, then please do the following. Below this post, type out the leadership oath below. Do not cut and paste it. Typing it helps you really think through what you are committing to. Next, at the bottom, sign it with your listener name like this: My (GlenM's) Leadership Oath: Leadership Oath I pledge a moral oath before the 7 Cups community and fellow leaders, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill to the best of my ability and judgment this covenant and undertaking. I will use my gifts, strengths, and talents to serve the 7 Cups community. I will work alongside other leaders and staff to make a measurable impact in my track or domain. I will treat others with dignity and respect. I will not disparage other people or 7 Cups. I will practice high warmth and high expectations for others; this means that I will care deeply for them and I will also expect them to try hard and put in real work that has a tangible impact. I will expect the same from myself and I will hold myself accountable. I will work hard to listen to constructive criticism and feedback. I will strive to look at my own challenges as opportunities to grow and learn as a leader. I will recognize when I don't know something and will ask for help when I need it. I will know my own abilities and limitations. I will grow in knowledge, understanding, and skill, to work collaboratively with leaders and staff. I will continue to try hard and work with perseverance, especially when things are difficult, challenging or uncertain. I will demonstrate teamwork and flexibility by sharing projects and responsibilities with my fellow leaders and understanding that we are working toward a common goal. I understand that I am a leader and I am a part of something bigger than myself. I am honored to serve the 7 Cups community. I will keep this promise as a person of integrity and as a leader, and I will do everything in my power to facilitate the strengthening of other leaders and the broader 7 Cups community. Course 2, Discussion 2: Lead by example

...See more Great Leadership, unsurprisingly, starts with yourself! Practice what you preach. Lead by example. I am sure all of you heard these phrases. But why are they so iconic? Because the journey starts with the first step and you are the person who is taking the initiative to lead -- Start a journey! So, you are the one who needs to take the first step before expecting others to do it. To start with leading yourself, close your eyes and visualize two people: someone who inspired and encouraged you to be like them, and someone who discouraged you to be not like them. Then, write down the good qualities of the person who inspired you as well as the qualities of the second person. You do not have to be specific with the details. Just a bulleted list. Now, compare the list to yourself. Note the good qualities you have, the bad qualities you have, and give yourself a rating on a scale of 1-10. What we just did is identified your strengths and weaknesses and what you need in order to lead yourself. This allows you to create self-awareness. Self-awareness is key to leading yourself in the right direction. But, leading yourself is not easy. Just being self-aware isn't enough. It's igniting the spark but not enough to catch the fire. To catch the fire, you need to be persistent with your practice, which is regular reflection. Be consistent with monitoring your efforts and holding yourself accountable. You can't effectively lead others until you know how to lead yourself. That happens through Self-Observant Leadership: when you deeply understand your identity, compare it to your reputation (how others experience you) and then make meaning of the observations, and choose to adapt. Exercise: ✒️ What did you learn about yourself through the given exercise? ✒️ Respond to one of your peers in this thread ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course2FoundationalLeadershipPrinciples_2490/Course2Discussion3HighExpectationsandHighWarmth_292688/]! Course 1, Discussion 5: 7 Cups Culture
by Hope
Last post

...See more Hello Leadership Crew! I hope you have been benefitting from this course. This is the last discussion of our course 1. We take culture seriously on 7 Cups because it is the heart of how we operate. A wise person once said: You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are. We can have all of the best training content we want, but if our culture is not strong, then we will not be successful in growing a thriving, compassionate, community that will make a global impact. Every organization has a culture whether by design or by default. When culture (including values [https://www.7cups.com/about/values.php] and mission [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GlensNook_84/OurVisionforaBetterWorld_334/OurMission_18219/1/] are not called out or made explicit, the organization defaults to an implicit or unstated culture. The unnamed culture is not always great for the end users or the community. An example of a common and implicit cultural rule or norm is that the person that makes the most money or the organization is the most important. People that work in this organization then, naturally, because it is the culture, start organizing themselves around ways to make more and more money. The ones at the top of the hierarchy are the ones that make the most money. 7 Cups cares less about money and more about compassion. We call out compassion and celebrate compassionate people because that is central to the work we do. View picture source here [https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/publications/creating-space-compassion-empathy-learning] Please read our guide here [https://www.7cups.com/about/culture.php] to deeply understand our culture. We have made it explicit because we believe it is important to help us all be accountable to what we stand for and believe in. As leaders on 7 Cups, you will be models that emulate our culture and values. ✒️To help make it more real, in this post, please highlight the 3 most important things you learned from our guide [https://www.7cups.com/about/culture.php] and why they are important to you. ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗❗After posting, please... 1. Course 2, Discussion 5: Conflict Resolution 101: Dealing with Gossip and Triangulation
by FrenchToast
Last post
Saturday
...See more Let's call you Person A. Now, you have a problem with Person B and really dont know what to do about it. You go to Person C to discuss it. This is triangulation, when a problem between 2 people comes to involved a 3rd person unnecessarily. While gossiping is spreading or engaging in the discussion of any information that is not true, exaggerated or hurtful to the individual. If you are not comfortable saying the same to someone directly, it is likely gossip and should not be shared with third person. The triangulation process can happen in all relationships. Let's say someone is offended by another user. Triangulation can be very tempting, but it ultimately only ends up negatively impacting all involved. Having clear, calm, and honest conversation is challenging and requires you to overcome your fears, but, when done right, it positively impacts all involved. At times a person doesn't realize that some words or phrases may seem intimidating to another person. We all come from different backgrounds thus it is important for us to support each other. Why is triangulation unhelpful? Because it perpetuates the spread of information, which can be hurtful to those involved. It lends itself to rumor spreading and it takes a private situation between two users and exposes it to more people. What should you do if someone comes to you for support on something which occurred in the community? 1) Never share the names of another user 2) Never share specific details of a chat with another user 3) If someone wants to share with you, please say this: "I am sorry this happened! Sounds like a challenging situation. As to avoid triangulation, it would be best for you to practice conflict resolution with that person. If conflict resolution is not possible, please let a community manager know by filing a L-L report. Please do not share this situation with other users as to preserve confidentiality. Special note: You should avoid triangulation with all other users, including mentors, group mods, peer supporters, mentor leaders and ambassadors. Any time a situation cannot be worked out via conflict resolution, please file a L-L report. We have covered the don’ts, now lets see how we can resolve conflict. * Step back and slow down * Think before you put your words across in order to avoid something that will escalate the conflict. * Show clarity regarding your intentions and goals for the conversation * Listen to learn something new and express your views and feelings professionally. * Avoid blaming or changing another person's point of view. * Avoid assumptions and ask questions to explore the other persons story * Do not convince them you are right. * Listen to the person on the opposite end as they will more likely try to understand you. * Express your feelings without holding the other person accountable for the conflict * Use I statements to express yourself. * State a feeling rather than judging. * Be responsible for your assumptions * On the internet, messages can be interpreted in several ways. To think that your beliefs and conclusions about others are the truth, will only escalate the conflict. * Find a common ground * Reaching a common ground will make it easier to resolve the conflict and will diffuse defensiveness. ✒️ Taking responsibility for our actions: Take the Pledge! As a listener in our community, it is your responsibility to stop triangulation when you see it or are invited to participate in it. Doing this will keep our community healthy and moving in a positive direction. I challenge you all to take the Avoiding Triangulation Pledge: "In all of my interactions on 7 Cups, I will work to maintain healthy relationships and a supportive environment by stopping the spread of rumors and misinformation. I will maintain professionalism by not involving myself in conversations or situations which do not include me or require my presence." ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗❗After posting, please... 1. Course 2, Discussion 4: The problem is the path
by FrenchToast
Last post
Saturday
...See more Hello LDP Team! The problem is the path is the core insight that helps us evolve as individuals and as a community here on 7 Cups. Here is an overview of this course: Course Description: It is natural for us to want to avoid problems. Problems can cause worry, anxiety, and frustration. These are feelings that we often want to avoid. Problems, however, are the key to growth. When we face our problems directly we get smarter and grow stronger. A saying that captures this is: Progress = Pain + Reflection. This course helps you learn the value of problems by highlighting the difference between problems you might be concerned about and problems you can directly solve. Next, it walks you through the ancient practice of steering into problems directly in order to unlock their value and gifts. Finally, it helps you identify and measure progress so you can make continued gains in your personal and professional life. ✒️ Watch the following video and identify 3 things in your circle of concern, 3 things in your circle of influence, and 1 thing you can do to remind yourself to focus on your circle of influence. Watch the video here [https://youtu.be/tD0aFZkFrFA] ✒️ Next, watch the following video and highlight what stands out to you about this executive? What did they do that would be considered proactive as opposed to reactive? Watch the second video here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SMxQ18ojs4] Further Reading (Optional but recommended): This idea of problem is the path is a reoccurring theme in self help books and especially stoicism. If you are interested in learning more about this thought process, we recommend the following books: The obstacle is the way by Ryan Holiday [https://www.amazon.com/Obstacle-Way-Ancient-Turning-Triumph/dp/B078SZG78F/ref=sr_1_3?crid=5R52AUMRP5QC&keywords=obstacle+is+the+way&qid=1669109653&s=books&sprefix=obstacle%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C280&sr=1-3] A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy, by William Braxton Irvine [https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Good-Life-Ancient-Stoic/dp/1522632735] ✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words! ❗After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/LeadershipDevelopmentProgram_202/Course2FoundationalLeadershipPrinciples_2490/Course2Discussion5ConflictResolution101DealingwithGossipandTriangulation_292691/]!
