my journal: various subjects, opinionating, CW at times
The title explains itself.
If you're interested in the ramblings of a middle-aged man with chronic conditions who, at times, sees things a little too clearly for his own good, then read on.
Sometimes I get political, but it won't be all the time.
I don't mind comments in general but if you're going to differ with what I write, that's fine--as long as you can explain your position clearly & reasonably. Rants, shouting & general incoherence will be ignored or flagged, depending on the situation. Try to remember that not everyone else in this world holds your beliefs.
Every so often I may post art or snapshots of projects I'm working on.
If you're still interested after reading all the above, great. (I do wonder at how much time you have on your hands, though)
Still flaring today, though not like the last two days... However I have the runs too. That's been going on for at least a couple days now. Between the two conditions, I'm not in much of a mood to do anything.
What we need is some cheesecake:
I followed your lead, @mytwistedsoul... The link definitely works & I didn't even need to open my Dropbox acct. (Have had one for a while now) The only problem is that while it works, it's like two other conversion/download sites I found: the MP4 clips are never 720p...they're always 360p or similar size. That's fine for watching vids on a phone but for even a laptop-sized monitor screen, it's not big or detailed enough. I still appreciate the thought... Might be stuck with the previous movies/clips for the foreseeable future, unless I find online cloud storage platforms with whatever was uploaded by users previously. That is an option, depending on what kind of videos you're looking for.
@slowdecline48 Oh. Well that sucks. I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I find something else
Thanks, Twisty. I found other full-size vids almost a month ago (some of 'em were, anyway)... Getting them didn't involve YouRube at all. They've got just two problems: 1) downloading them can take a while unless you're willing to pay extra for higher speeds (I never do), & 2) the subject matter is quite limited, stuff I rarely ever watch unless I'm really bored & have a sufficient amount of disposable energy. These conditions rarely occur in my life.
@slowdecline48 Lol I hear you there. I don't watch much stuff either. I might over winter. I used to watch more but it's all sort of stupid shows
I just remembered: there's also Vimeo. Not sure how easy it is to download stuff from it...probably easier if you have an account there. There's Dailymotion too, but I've never tried that platform.
@slowdecline48 I always forget about Vimeo! I haven't heard of Dailymotion though. I'll have to check that one out
Ride On - AC/DC
Aches & pains + weird weather not corresponding to the forecast today. So I'm lying down. Hate this s***...it is a luxury I cannot afford to spend time on.
In lieu of doing anything useful, here's my thought on current events:
✨"What are you grateful for today?"✨
🤔
...that I've had my chainsaw for almost a month now, went & attempted some logging on my property, did cutting exercises with it before the trip to my property & after--& that as of now, all my limbs are still attached.
If there is anything to be grateful for, it's that... That I haven't been removed from the census or maimed via some greenhorn stupidity that could've been avoided.
Of course it would happen sooner or later. Of course. I could've bet money on it.
With the media exposure the Israeli-Arab conflict has gotten, everyone & his/her/its brother has something to say about it. Cups-Land would be no exception. The only puzzling aspect is that it didn't happen until today. I responded, of course.
If you are a member or Listener here & you want to be an activist for the pro-Pal/anti-Israel cause, go ahead. But don't think you won't get pushback. That will not happen as long as I'm here.
This is also an example of why I thought the Religion & Spirituality Forum was a bad idea. I still think it's a bad idea.
Yep...as I predicted. The fight is on. I see two possibilities:
- Ms. Advocate will say nothing more once she realizes I know what I know about the Israeli-Arab conflict & its roots (it didn't start in 1948, or even the 1880's)...that isn't likely.
- Ms. Advocate & I will go at it until one of the community managers steps in.
From there I see a few more:
- I could get banned from the R&S forum, if my opponent is in good with whoever steps in.
- Someone decides to lock the thread. I've never seen that happen here, but presumably it can be done.
- My posts get taken down & I receive a note in the IM app here, explaining why in typically bland language with the usual therapeutic jargon.
We shall see.
@Aayla -
- This is my journal. I can say what I please within certain limits. It is not published by a staff & you do not have an editorial position here. I left your name out as a courtesy. Apparently it was wasted.
- Your opening post didn't indicate any interest in a real dialogue, either. Its tone is that of a partisan looking to share her lofty "enlightenment" with some John Doe off the street who clearly needs some education, since he can't possibly know what you know. Right?
Remember: you don't know who I am, where I've been or what I've seen or heard, or done. All you know about me is from what I've posted here so far...which isn't much.
In your case, however, nothing you said was new. It's what passes for current "progressive" opinion on the not-so-new conflict between Israel & its enemies. And your liking my comment where I summed up your stance told me all I needed to know. It's the same as others I've encountered, back when I engaged in online "debate" like so many other malcontents (also during my university years). These days I don't seek it out, but I won't back down if it's about an issue I consider important.
As for "dialogue", if you think you can convince me of the justice of eliminating a country (& most likely its people, since most of them won't leave voluntarily) on behalf of those for whom you advocate...hey, give it a shot. Send me a message if you want.
"Humans are creatures of habit. Furthermore, even when confronted with reasonably documented new facts that they understand intellectually, they frequently fail to grasp the new message at the visceral level. The opportunities for mass destruction and 'Armageddon of the cheap' have proliferated. Communication and new means of transportation essentially have wiped out the comforts of international isolation. Geography still matters, but it no longer provides a safe haven for any state."
