🦋Beautiful Butterflies 🦋
The warm and humid weather makes June the perfect time for butterflies to start emerging and fluttering through wildflowers and gardens.
There are approximately 18,500 named species of butterflies all over the world. Here is a quiz to identify some of the more common UK species: https://www.sporcle.com/games/Woorsie/uk-butterflies-picture-click
I have purchased a butterfly kit and the caterpillars were sent to me in a culture pot and in 2-3 weeks, they will eat, spin silk, and grow until they are 10x bigger than they were when they arrived. When they are ready, they will form chrysalides and then in another 1-2 weeks, they will emerge as Painted Lady butterflies! (pictured above)

@Lou73 I love the butterflies. This one is called "little chessboard" (in my native language). Generally Correct? Greetings from me to you. Blue.
Aww @sensitiveSummer4976 thank you for letting us know the translation! that's so fascinating and perfectly apt for the pattern on these pretty butterflies 🥰🦋
@Lou73 Hey there, you´re welcome. 😊🦋💗
@Lou73
@SleepyShyCat that is lovely!
This is a Red Admiral in my garden last week.

Aw Misty what a beautiful Red Admiral! 🦋 and resting/eating on Buddleia - always a butterfly magnet 🤗🦋
@Lou73 I planted them specifically for that purpose. We used to get peacocks and tortoise shells than as the lilac buddleia grew Red Admirals only ? Is that why the others no l longer visit?
@MistyMagic
That does seem strange that the Peacock and Tortoiseshell have stopped visiting as all 3 of those species are usually attracted to Buddleia. However it could be to do with these 2 species getting ready to hibernate from mid to late September whilst the Red Admiral gets ready to migrate to warmer climates from late autumn to early winter. 🦋🦋🦋
