@sympatheticPlane7106 When I first started dating my husband, I had the usual assumption about Mexicans : tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc. But, then we got more serious and I got to meet the family and started going to family gatherings .. have you ever heard of menudo, ceviche, mole, or pizole? Or beef tongue, head cheese, carnitas, or nopales (cactus)? I tried just about everything and had to learn how to cook most of it when we decided to get married, but I cannot stand menudo, beef tongue, or the head cheese. lol I learned how to eat everything w/tortillas also! I forgot the last time I had a piece of bread .. or macaroni and cheese ..
@sympatheticPlane7106 - I've always found it interesting how what feels very exotic to one person is super normal and everyday to another. I've always been a believer in trying everything twice (once to try it, and if I hate it, a second time if someone tells me it is particularly well prepared, just in case!), so I've had a lot of different foods from different cultures. Some delicious (tongue when prepared correctly, pretty much any form of raw seafood, alligator, snails, kimchi, etc.), and some...well, not so delicious, at least to me (tripe, gefilte fish, fried crickets, and liver - no matter how many preparations I try!).
Always looking for recommendations of new cuisines or dishes to try, especially as I travel!
I tried ostrich and goat before. I never tried beef tongue or Aligator (and I will one day! ) I always wanted to try dragon fruit and lychee. I saw them once before but they spoil so fast when they get here (in the super markets). Curry goat is my favorite
@sympatheticPlane7106 Goat is really common in my culture and I'm surprised that a lot of people don't eat it as much. Lychee is absolutely delicious-super sweet and juicy, but has a very fresh flavor
Okay so I have quite a few that I have tried:
- Kangaroo burger: Really juicy and honestly tastes like beef so I would try again
- Escargot (snails): Very chewy and salty, not terrible but I wouldn't personally want to eat them
- Sea Slugs: Same as escargot but not as salty, pretty much the same feelings about it though
- Fried jellyfish: Tastes like nothing but is super crunchy. Because it was paired with soy sauce it tasted like crunch soy sauce. Overall I feel indifferent
- Bison burger/bison hotdog: Super juicy and tender meet that tastes like beef but better. Would definitely try again
- And lastly balut (fermented duck embryo still in the egg): So balut has 3 components- the amniotic fluid which tastes like chicken noodle soup (it's actually really good), the yolk sac which tastes like a scrambled egg (also pretty nice), and the embryo itself which is kinda chewy and fishy tasting (almost like a pate-and this part I didn't particularly love)
@FantasiaSweetShock Things I would love to try- frog legs, rabbit, ostrich burgers, and durian fruit (although I would really not want to smell while eating it)
