Breathing Exercises

In the "path" portion of 7cups there is a regular task about deep breathing. Starts as a point, then line, triangle, square, on & on to octagon. Then the image reverses, the course it to breathe in while images build and breath out while they decrease. Maybe I have that backwards but effect is the same. No reference is given as to how long to do the task, I noticed that unless I focus, I only did it like 3 times and clicked done. So that past few days I started doing it in a manner of 10 breathes, I suspect my inability to pay attention is why I have to use a finger count to get to ten. A strange side effect is when I complete the task, I am light headed. I googled it and seems like it is normal as a beginner but also says that you are not creating enough carbon dioxide to get rid of, confusing a bit to me. My question is does anyone else have this phenomenon? It concerns me a bit as finding myself light headed seem to be an increasingly incurring issue. Note that my way off eating right now is low carb high fat caloric defeceit for losing 2 lbs per week. I try to exercise daily but not an extreme amount. I am 52, think I am sort of healthy but have reduced my weight from 300ish lbs to 200 lbs in last 10 months. Thanks for any input and guidance. Have a great day.

@ruffneckred I agree with you.

The instructions are backwards. When it gets smaller that suggests breathing out to me, and when it gets larger that suggests breathing in.

The timing is also wrong. When you're relaxed your in-breath is naturally quite fast and your out-breath takes a long time, but this gadget tries to force them to be equal.

And the pace is way to fast, causing carbon dioxide washout. For some people this will simulate a panic attack. You are lucky it only makes you feel light-headed.

If you really want to match your breathing to the gadget, the trick is to make your breathing very shallow. This way you can breathe fast without losing carbon dioxide. But fast shallow breathing doesn't promote calm.

Thanks for the interaction, I think I will tread iightly as this lightheadedness is a bit concerning. I recall another technique for breathing, don't recall where it originated but I think it was to facilitate going to sleep. You would breath in for a count of seven, hold for 7, out for 7, pause for 7... repeat.. I try this once in a while but my "internal" counting becomes laborious and defeats the sleeping part. For some reason I count by saying the numbers aloud to myself, silently if that makes sense? Is that normal?

@ruffneckred ​​I would count seconds like that too! The only other way I can think of doing it is as a 7-tick rhythm:

tick-tick, tick-tick, tick-tick-tick

Oh, I would have a problem keeping track of the ticks, so mine is 1,2,3... Doing the 7cups exercise lets me not count, but I do a finger thing to track how many cycles I do, my mind is very prone to wandering. Anxiety, depression, and lord knows what but I have really noticed how scatterbrained I am, maybe have become, my memory is not well and my confidence is non existent.
