Healthy Tips
Have a healthy recipes post it here wither it is a smoothie or meal.
This is a great idea! I have adapted to eating/cooking only Mexican food b/c my husband is Mexican, so for the past 3 years since we've lived together, everything I eat/cook is either fried/occassionally boiled. I have gained weight around my belly. Majority of Mexican food is fried .. tastes great .. but is fattening! Tamales are made from lard!
I found I was eatingconstantly, even when not hungry. So I now drink this shake in the mornings and I am not hungry again until the afternoon and there is no way I can even think about food!! 1cup of milk, 1scoop soy protein shake mix (bought at WalMart, a canister for like 10 bucks), 1banana, handful of almonds or a tablespoon of peanut butter. Trust me, try it!
I've always wanted to try something like this! I'm always worried that it won't taste as good as I would think... what's your opinion?
Hi I was just wondering if there is anyone on here that can relate with me. I don't want to loose weight but I REALLY want to become healthy it is just really difficult!!
@Sailor77 As far as I learned from my doctor, you should exercise and eat a bit more than you would usually do to eat the amount of calories your body needs. That way you will be more fit and healthy (if you also don't eat junk food all the time, obviously) and will not lose weight :).
Exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet
I have found that moderation is important; if I don't treat myself to something I really enjoy (even if it has a lot of calories, is fattening, etc.), it is much easier to go back to it in the future. 80% can be healthy, but 20% can be any other food, as long as it is in moderation. If I am craving potato chips, it probably would not be a good idea to eat an entire bag, but allowing myself to have a small bowl gives me enough to enjoy, but not go overboard. This can also be applied to exercising; it is key, but taking breaks are just as necessary. I can workout 80% of the time, and then the other 20% of the time can be devoted to resting and doing other things I enjoy!
For me personally, switching from juices or sodas to teas or water has made a huge difference (While trying to exercise 5 times a week) for my body as well as my skin!! I'd recommend that!
If you drink antidepressant or mood stabilizer, don't consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice, it can make it much worse.
I put kale in just about all my smoothies. It's an awesome way to make them a bit more healthy and you can barely taste it!
If you're busy, cook a whole bunch of healthy food and freeze it. I have lunch at work, but I only cook twice a week -- on Sunday night and on Wednesday or Thursday night.
Try to find options that work for you. Go to the market or supermarket with plenty of time, and just look at what's available for you that's within your budget. You might find you had choices you didn't even think of. For example, if you want to stop eating meat, you can make burgers with soy protein, eggplant or chickpea patties. It does require a bit of effort at first, but in time you'll know what you like, what you can cook within your time, budget and taste.
One tip: baked French fries. Cut the potatoes in the shape of fries, add a some olive oil and salt, and bake with the fan on for about 30 minutes. They taste just as good, and they're a lot less oily. I will never go back to deep-frying my fries again.
@carmela30 I have to fry almost everything .. I am trying to counteract the recipes and bake instead of fry, but it's hard when you're used to it and that's how you were taught. My husband is Mexican .. I had to learn how to cook that kind of food .. tastes good at Taco Bell, but the real Mexican food is 90% fried. I have gained weight since I got married b/c I am eating only that kind of food. Since you have an idea about baking fries, what about, say, chicken? or ground turkey instead of beef/pork? Omg .. they love pork and pork rinds!
@TransAm85
You can bake chicken and ground beef as well....I have actully swapped Regular burger for Turkey burger and it tastes the same.... Thats what plenty of "Seasonings" are for!!.... You can have a "Mexican Fiesta" of taste all you want... I come from Hispanic background as well. There are plenty of seasonings out there to give it the flavor you desire.Such as Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime, and McCormick mexican seasonings etc..... I used to Fry so many things as well.. But baking is just as good, and SSOOO much healthier. Honestly, you have to do what is best for you. Even it means cooking your own foods "separately" from everyone elses. Or pre-planning your own meals ahead of time. Cook your own foods one day of the week, and package and refrigerate them for the week ahead... At least up to 4-5 days worth.....and then that leaves the rest of the week open for you to cook for your family/husband as well....Thats what I did...It gets easier the more you do it. Its just about finding what is going to work for you to get healthier! And sticking to it
@PoliteOcean I am not insulting their preference of food at all. I love my husband and my in laws. My sister in law makes the best horchata and ceviche. I adapted to eating everything on tortillas so bread has become foreign to me, except conchas lol. I just want to know how to alternate the recipes a little bit instead of being fried .. is there other ways to bake them? And yes, cooking 4 -5 days earlier sounds a lot better b/c I don't get home until around 7 and I always try to hurry up and cook b/c eating so late isn't very good either, right?
