What are you doing to utilize your time during lockdown/ self-isolation?

ASilentObserver March 27th, 2020

I know it isn't an easy time for anyone and all feeling stressed and challenged. But to stay safe, this is only option available to all of us right now.

So, What are you doing to utilize your time during lockdown/ self-isolation?

I've been keeping up on my hobbies (Reading, writing, sketching, video games). Been trying new things like sewing and candle making. I don't find it that much different from normal life haha

I've been continuing with online coursework for a certification I want to get. I've been trying to exercise in my room some more too. I also got a drawing tablet recently so I've been trying to get used to drawing with that and becoming familiar with the drawing software. But most of the time I end up mindlessly watching YouTube which is something I want to do less.

I have been following fitness youtubers and following some routines to keep myself fit and healthy indoors :)

I urge you all to do the same!

I'm a computer science student so not much have changed for me. I'm working on my bachelor thesis, doing my homeworks and studying materials the proffesors send us, and programming credit programs. This takes most of my time. When I want to have rest I watch some movie or series, play the guitar, play some computer game or read a book.

I know being isolated and shut in the home can be difficult. I'm trying to accentuate the positives with my family. I'm asking them to try took at it as a "stay-cation" (the vacation but at home). It's terrific if we can do our best to think of it as a great opportunity to spend the extra time with one another that we have always wanted to. smiley We are watching movies, playing board games, having great discussions, and doing a lot of self care too!

We are going to make the special Christmas cookies that we usually only make once a year, during the holiday season.

We've started ramping up and started on the spring cleaning that we do every year, but no rush. Nice leisurely pace. After that it would be great if we use some of our time to organize, clean out closets and drawers, and donate clothing and house hold goods that might not be needed or have been outgrown. Certainly can't drop these items off right now, but we can at least bag them up and get them ready for someone else to enjoy.

@SparkyGizmo I have been focusing on some of my school work even though it is technically spring break. There were a few subjects that I struggled with, so I want to get a hand on them before transitioning to the online courses.

@SparkyGizmo

I am stuck at home with some very loud siblings and I am getting assignments via Google Classroom.

Not great but it could be worse!

I must say, this could be very frustrating for you and on many different levels. heart I understand! heart

Is there a special place/area in your home that you could designate as your quiet space and sacred time to do your studies? I'm imagining that you typically have a routine, getting up in the morning, brushing your teeth, getting dressed, having breakfast, etc. I'm wondering if it will feel good to keep with some of the routine, consistency, and structure?

I understand that now these are the expectations, placed on you, to do just as well scholastically while being quarantined in your home, in a noisy environment, when maybe that isn't always the case.

Can you ask your parents to maybe sit with you, call a "family discussion time" with them? Would you feel comfortable with them, asking for a designated area during the day to take care of your scholastics? Maybe your bedroom and your siblings aren't allowed in your bedroom at that time?

I'm thinking when you go to school, the bell rings and you usually have a chance to move to another classroom area, walk through the halls, stretch your legs a bit, and shift your focus on the new task of what that different classroom experience may require? Maybe you could make a commitment to yourself, set a kitchen timer even, and when the buzzer sounds, just like the school bell ringing to alert you to change classes, you could get up, stretch your legs, get some water, step outside and get some fresh air for a nice recharge?

Maybe even keeping your lunch time at the same time in the day could help? Maybe while eating lunch you could do something nice like watching tv?

I'm hoping this helps my friend! I send you big *hugs* heartsmiley

I'm a stay at home mother with some health issues that forced me to leave my former job almost a year ago. For me, it's pretty much business as usual. I take care of my daughter and household while my husband works. Thankfully he is still working right now, but we don't know for how much longer.
