Hello! Just want to clarify if there is a minimum I need to meet per month to keep the badge and make sure I'm fulfilling my responsibilities as a mod?
@jovialButterfly6752 the minimum is 100 messages per month, Jovi but it would be helpful if you as a mod focus on fostering healthy conversations in the chatrooms and make member feel heard and seen. That is the primary and important goal as a chatroom moderator.
@ASilentObserver
Gotcha. Just want to clarify so I make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to. thank you :)
@jovialButterfly6752
Good questions jovial! I had similar inquiries. Luckily now I have a better idea so thanks for asking.
Hello all,
I'm a community centered moderator. I really enjoy my role and I think I've been trying my best in terms of my role expectations and I was trying to give the best I could.
Yesterday, a conversation was going about mods. I felt very offended, 2 mods were already there if my memory doesn't fail me. I gave a verbal warning saying that what is happening sounds a bit rude and rule number 15 says that we should respect moderators.
I got attacked even more and I still feel disturbed and hurting because of what happened.
How could you navigate through this? I'm already deciding on taking a self-care break, I think that will result losing some of my roles.
Sorry if this sounds like complaining. Thanks in advance.
@Here4good74 i am very sorry to hear this.
I am a retired Mod and Support Team Leader and Retired Room Support Mentor here at 7Cups.
One thing you could do is to check in with your Support Team Leader.
If your sub-community has one.
This person is in-charge of over seeing the Mods and Room Supporters.
They can offer support and guide you through steps that you can take, so if this should happen again, you know how to handle it better next time.
It sounds to me you did everything right, but I cannot say for sure, because I was not in the room at the time it happened.
I am sorry you got attacked.
As a former Mod, it can happen.
You just have to try not to let it affect you.
If it is affecting you, this might be a sign, that A You might not be ready to be a Mod. B The Mod roll is not for you. C You might need some mentoring from a fellow Mod.
Some times Members like to see how strong or how week a Mod is.
A strong Mod is one who does not let Members attack them, they use there Modding tools, when needed.
They do not let the Members get to them.
They also enforce the chatroom and site guidelines.
They set good boundaries.
They review there Mod Guide book as much as possible.
They reach out to there Team Leaders, for help and support, when needed.
They remind the members to follow the chatroom rules.
Also, they remind them to be respectful to others in the room.
Also, it is very important that you as a Mod, that you show respect back as well.
Respect in my mind is a two way street.
So, if you as a Mod want respect, then show respect back.
Also, this goes for anyone, including Mods, room supporters, or any Community Leader, or any non leader: If you want respect, they you MUST show some respect back.
It is a give and take approach.
Also, remember your listener training as well.
A week Mod:
Does not care about the membership.
Does not show up.
Does not follow Mod training guidelines.
Does not reach out to team leaders, when needed.
Does not care about keeping members safe, ect.
Does not follow there listener training and Mod training.
That is a sign of a weak Mod to me.
I am not saying your weak, just point out, what I learned and seen from the Mods here, over the years.
I hope this is somewhat helpful.
