LGBTQ+, Disability & Trauma Rooms

November 7th, 2019

Hey everyone!

Following the changes made to the rooms recently, we have updates on our Trauma, Disability and LGBTQ+ chatrooms.

We know these rooms particularly need a safe space and that it is difficult to navigate our regular rooms before or now. We have been working on an update and are ready to roll it out!

To gain access to these rooms, you will need to make a request
here. There are no additional requirements for members however listeners will need to have the Active Listening Level 1 certificate found on this page. This means they will need to have taken the Listener Oath, 10 steps on their Growth Path and have had Five 1-1 Chats with members. The accounts will then be checked for behavior history as well as multiple accounts.

If all is good, you will receive the Support Key badge which will give you access to the chatrooms. We will try to have these processed as quickly as possible however ask for your patience in the beginning while we work it out.

How will new users know to make a request for access?

We will ask the Subcommunity leader to make this visible in there forum areas as well as include it in check ins. Any users who seek support in these topics in the Support Room or Community room will be sent the link to this post and welcome to request access

What happens if someone violates guidelines and chatroom rules?

We want these spaces to remain safe. This means if community guidelines are violated or any disruptions occur, the badge will be removed and the user will lose access to the rooms.

If you have any questions feel free to share and we will answer them as best we can. I hope that this will help improve the quality of support we can provide and that we can continue to move forward as a community.

Thank you to all of you who have been open minded and who continue to make this a community we can all be proud of!

@CaringBrit Good thinking! Thanks for the help. The room will remain open for now and we will see how this goes. Hoping this space stays safe and supportive so we can keep it that way and perhaps in the future use a similar methos for other areas too!

@CaringBrit 10 1on1 chats? If maybe you had listeners available enough that would not be such a pain but the reality is you don't.

Your requirement to talk to listeners of 5+ is not helpful it only keeps people away.

@Vrsyren im not sure why your lashing out at me im sorry you feel it is a pain but i did not pick the requirements the community Managers did

@CaringBrit I am not lashing out, and I do not personally balme you for hte number. I Justice think that's it is a but unrealistic for those legitimately looking for help.

@Vrsyren was just the tone and wording is all no worries

Vrsyren November 11th, 2019

@CaringBrit One of the issues with anything online or on the phone (txt). Important indicators like tone and body language are lost allowing for greater chances to misconvey or misunderstand a conversation.

Many in the 35plus room felt they needed an age based space since there issues were not addressed in other rooms. Maybe this could be done with that room as well. There are even less resources online for older people.

@Palliser That goes for the 50+ subcommunity as well.

ReclusiveReptile November 15th, 2019

@Palliser yeaaaaaaaaah. The suicide rates alone show they're not getting the support they need. I always thought it was a pretty busy room so i was surprised to see it go.

Is this for members or just listeners? That's not really clear here.

I do need access to the LGBTQ room as I relied on that for support, and that's been cut off completley.

@TheMadQueen420

the link is for both listeners and members. members just need to request.
Although listeners need additional requirements.

@Lorraine234 - I like the idea behind this. Hopefully, it can be added to other chatrooms in the future

Another idea for increasing how this is shared with new users is to include a link to this thread, the form, or something similar, in the automatic welcome messages members receive from listeners, or members could receive a "Welcome to 7Cups" induction from Noni, maybe something similar to the listener training, but telling members the different features 7cups offers and how to access these features rather than an Active Listening quiz. Something like that would be nice, as not all users are going to check subcommunities/forums or look at check-ins.

ShadowFaerie November 11th, 2019

Hi there! ☺ I tried to follow the link to request access to the LGBTQ+, disability, and trauma chatrooms. It was broken, all I got was a blank page, so if someone could give me a working link, or just grant me access, that would be great! 😁 I've been away for a while, and need to catch up on changes. Thank you so much

[edited by Anomalia for unsupportive phrasing - question is if there will be a special badge for those who have access to these rooms]
