Dussehra/ Vijayadashami, in Hinduism, holiday marksthe triumph of Rama, an avatar of Vishnu, over the 10-headed demon king Ravana, who abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. The festival’s name is derived from the Sanskrit words dasha (“ten”) and hara (“defeat”). Symbolizing the victory of good over evil, Dussehra is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Ashvina (September–October), the seventh month of the Hindu calendar, with the appearance of the full moon, an event called the “bright fortnight” (shukla paksha). Dussehra coincides with the culmination of the nine-day Navratri festival and with the tenth day of the Durga Puja festival. For many, it marks the beginning of preparation for Diwali, which occurs 20 days after Dussehra.

Happy Dussehra to you all!  Thanks for sharing the info about this day of celebration.  It's always nice to learn about different cultures and how each of us celebrate special events.  I enjoyed reading your post.

Thank you so much! Happy Dussehra!

Yes, it's definitely amazing how we come from different cultures and celebrate it all together here. Thought I'd share about the fun times with y'all. And of course this festival is about the victory of good over evil. So, I thought this is the right place to share it so that we all are able to get the message of not letting the negative thoughts win and find hope. 🌻✨

@Yougotmyback

This type of information post may perhaps be more suited for the communities of "Around the World" and/or "Religion & Spirituality."  As I am a part of both of those other communities, I was a bit surprised to find this type of post here.

Still, as you mentioned, the fight of good vs evil and the triumph of Good is certainly something Positive and something to be Grateful for!  And, more learning - festivals or culture or other language or how something is celebrated - for me, just that part is worth being thankful for also!  (Okay, that sentence is hard to read.  Sorry, I guess maybe I *am* tired.  go figure :\     <3 Platy

Hi, thank you for pointing it out. I couldn't find a particular place to post this at that moment and was kind of tired, so I thought maybe it can be a part of this community too. I'd keep that in mind next time. ❤️

And yes, true. I think I love this about 7 cups that it's such a positive place to share everything.

Hi, This may sound a bit redundant, but can one have or give TOO much thanks? ...

I just wanted to say thank you @yougotmyback, for your kind reply.  Others have tried to jump down my throat in the past for being too ?? strict? of rules of 7cups and forum and group chat, etc.  So I'm thankful that you read or took from my post how I meant it to be for you - and anyone else reading.  A thanks for the information and perhaps it would fit over here (arrow) in this other part of 7cups.

I hope you did have a good holiday!  Or, wait, is it still going on?  You said something about 9 days (or 9 nights) and then a different something on the 10th day?  I got kind of lost in the calendar days you were describing  :)

Happy wishes and God's blessings to you, @yougotmyback   ~Platy

Hi Platy! You're very sweet! It's completely okay to share the right way of doing something as long as the person is respectful. I appreciate honesty very much. ❤️

I'd rather have one person disliking something I do than ten people praising me for a wrong thing.

I'll keep your suggestion in mind!

Honestly, I didn't post in that forum because it's not visible in the app for me. Surprisingly, I can see it in the browser version. Sometimes these small things confuse me here and I thought of an available option because I was already late in posting it hehe xD

Actually, we get holidays for mainly two days but celebrate the festival for all 10 days. Navratri is beautiful. You can look for the pictures online if you're interested.

Navratri word means nav (nine), ratri (nights) in hindi. So, it goes on for 9 days. On 10th day, there's Dussehra (Dus - 10, hara - defeat) as Ravan had 10 heads who was killed by the Ram who's major deity in Hinduism). Hope that makes sense!

Good wishes to you too! 🌻💕

And your suggestions are always welcome. Don't think too much. Your thoughts matter. ✨

Wait for Diwali! 💕

That's even more beautiful when we light up all the houses and when we step out on the streets it's all shining bright. We meet each other and distribute sweets.

I love festivals! ❤️

And it's amazing how we all have different festivals and they're so unique. It's always nice to know about them from here. ✨

I wish I knew someone that celebrated. I’d make them invite me over for a party so I could see what it’s like! 😭
