As I work through the trauma path I've learned that sometimes it's not about feeling your best. Sometimes improvement can leave me feeling frustrated, sad, even anxious. It's important for me to learn how to identify when this is from growth or negative, and also important for me to take it slow and make sure I'm self-soothing along the way.

I found for me investing in some stress toys to play with while I talk about uncomfortable things helps keep me grounded and able to focus on monitoring how upset I am. I also found documenting any parts of my growth or changes in my understanding after these conversations or writing projects can go a long way to helping me cement that growth and self-soothing later as I can remind myself of what I've learned in the process.
