Raw texts: Summer you are Heaps astounding. You are unequivocally the most amazing woman I have ever met, and are undoubtedly the kindest most helpful person I have seen on this site. I hope you are doing well. Everyday I wish upon a star of Hope, my wish is always simple, and it's always the same. I wish for you to be okay, because if you're okay, then I am happy. Your presence in this world is my comfort, and your happiness would be my joy. You deserve so much, not just because of all the good you do for others, but because of the great wealth of goodness within you. Someone once told me 'you never know just how much of an impact you have on others', I suppose that's true for all of us. So I just want to let you know the profound and positive impact you have had on me. I, like you, always try to help others, however I didn't do much to help myself, because I felt that I was undeserving, and that it was pointless because there was nothing good in this world for me. I think it's you who inspires good, healthy thoughts and mindset. I am grateful for that! I prefer to have these than the other kind.
And yes! I do practice candle-watching since I read your article. I have practiced for years a more standard meditation, akin to Vipassana and Zazen.
But for me, while extremely positive, it requires some effort and focus, so sometimes I can't even start.
In contrast, Trataka is effortless, it captures my focus naturally. And it's very soothing. So when I feel restless or exhausted, or just want to soothe myself, I resort to candle-watching and it does the job!
I keep my Vipassana practice, they are complementary, sometimes I transition from one to the other.
But candle-watching is easy, powerful, mesmerizing, and very soothing. I can do it at any time, no matter how I feel.
It became a valuable part of my life, and I thank you a lot for this teaching.
