Cant focus AND I HATE IT

excitableSun85 February 21st

please help me figure out this annoying problem that i was dealing w my whole life. I cant keep track of my progress and i cant focus on most things no matter what strategy i try. I TRIED EVERYTHING. I need intense stimuli to focus, because my brain only operates under chaos. No i dont have adhd thank you.

Maybe it's a chemical/nutrient imbalance? I've found that my inattentiveness and brain fog have gotten worse, the worse stuff I eat. Maybe tweak that and see if it helps? (I have ADD, for reference.)

My mom invented this thing called "Time Chores". Set an alarm for 10 minutes, and every time the alarm goes off, you change tasks, or going from working to taking a break. Maybe try that? :)

i have this many times, i cant keep track of time and i will sometimes not realize the timer is ringing so i turn it off and go back, im too slow so i get stuck in one step and not remember the others because my brain is tooo disengaged and i have to drag it. i miss deadline adrenaline because it was the only thing that can make me finish stuff accordinglyđź’”

I can relate to that. I used to use coffee/caffeine to "focus" or MJ to "relax" and be creative, but it doesn't really help... I used to be able to focus on hobbies like drawing, language learning, weightlifting etc for hours, now it's difficult. The only thing I have been able to focus on is reading books or comics that happen to interest me for the moment. I feel immersed into that world.

I guess the easiest way to figure out how to focus is find out what's causing you to not focus.

For example:
1. Mental Health - Are you depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or stressed?

2. Physical Health - Are you getting exercise, sunlight or eating healthy foods(and lessening your caffeine & sugar intake)?

3. Environment - Is your space clear of clutter and non-distracting(as well as safe)?
4. Sleep - Are you getting enough sleep?

5. Vices - Do you smoke or drink? (could cause issues, it used to for me...)

If you're doing everything you can, you might want to see a doctor.
I have a doctor/psychiatrist that currently put me on meds to help with my issues...Going to therapy hopefully soon too.

Sometimes if you're unable to focus on anything, you can try doing nothing and allow your feelings and emotions to flow.
Some days, it just feel nice to lay in bed and daydream or nap/sleep.

none of those are my causes. my causes are disengagement and i believe i have low levels of adrenaline which is why i am able to focus and complete tasks Only at the last minute. I am only able to get out of bed if there is something urgent or exciting, alarms dont help, adrenaline runs my life. i am always disengaged and bored of everything since childhood. I lost my sense of urgency which is why im failing at college now. i tried to do things early for years i cut out distractions to enjoy topics of interest, but i cant focus well enough to finish them or start them. I just cant. my siblings are similar, i think it’s genetic. its also far beyond my comprehension how people are able to gain skills and achieve goals so easily, i was never able to do that without adrenaline. But my doctors have ruled out everything physical and i dont have a sleep disorder, do drugs, or have depression or anxiety. Its annoying that i dont know what causes it, but its definitely not environmental
