World Cancer Day
Hey community!
A global event taking place every year on February 4, World Cancer Day unites the world's population in the fight against cancer. The event aims at saving millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action.
Created in 2000, World Cancer Day has grown into a positive movement for everyone, everywhere to unite under one voice to face one of our greatest challenges in history.
Each year, hundreds of activities and events take place around the world, gathering communities, organisations and individuals in schools, businesses, hospitals, marketplaces, parks, community halls, places of worship - in the streets and online - acting as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in reducing the global impact of cancer.
This year's World Cancer Day's theme, 'I Am and I Will', is all about you and your commitment to act. We believe that through our positive actions, together we can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer and noncommunicable diseases by one third by 2030.
Join us on 4 February and speak out and stand up for a cancer-free world.
Our time to act is now.

🌹 Do you know anyone who has suffered from cancer? Or yourself?
Thank God that I have never suffered from any kind of Cancer myself but I know a lot of my patients who are suffering most commonly from breast CA, lungs CA, etc.
🌹 What is one thing you would want to say about this topic?
I have known this disease since my medical college days when I was completing my internship. I have witnessed a lot of patients dying due to cancer at our hospital where I work as a doctor. There are quite a lot of misconceptions & myths about Cancer & how a person gets it, etc. Therefore, I feel that spreading genuine knowledge about it through some free educational program can save a lot of lives. There are well-educated people who are unaware that a poor lifestyle could definitely lead to cancer. In spite of the widely known fact that smoking, drinking alcohol is the most common causes of Cancer, I have known a lot of elite families who consume them. All I can say is that you can only help those who want to be helped. Thank you so much for this discussion.
@DearDaphne
🌹 How many types of cancer are there?
I'm sure there's hundreds of them, which can affect the body anywhere in any way!
🌹 Do you know anyone who has suffered from cancer? Or yourself?
Fortunately, I've never experienced the illness myself, but know a few people who have. A college classmate and my grandmother, as far as I can recall.
🌹 What is one thing you would want to say about this topic?
Whoever has been diagnosed with cancer, regardless whether they managed to survive it or not, are literal warriors. I cannot imagine what these people go through and wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy.
@DearDaphne
Hi, and thank you for this thread. I am not sure how many cancers are out there but I believe there is just as much we don't know and don't realize. My mother was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer this past holdiay. From what I have learned, it is one of the worse and there is only a 20% chance that people that are diagnosed with it survive. To those who are living with it, or know someone who is, you are not alone <3
@DearDaphne
1. There are so so many types, almost too many to count
2. Yes i do, both my grandparents have suffered from it
3. you are never alone, cancer is unfortuantly really common. But there will always be people to support you no matter what
Idk.
Yea.
Hopefully cancer gets a cure soon.
@DearDaphne
🌹 How many types of cancer are there?
*over 100 types
🌹 Do you know anyone who has suffered from cancer? Or yourself?
*no
🌹 What is one thing you would want to say about this topic?
*finding a way to successfully treat every type should be a top priority for the world, I think if every country worked together, we would find treatment options a lot faster and if it's a collective effort we would be able to acquire the necessary ingredients quicker and easier
@DearDaphne
Thankyou for this amazing discussion post❤
More power to anyone dealing with cancer and/or having cancer patients around. Love and strength to y'all
@DearDaphne
🌹 How many types of cancer are there?
a lot! more than 100
🌹 Do you know anyone who has suffered from cancer? Or yourself?
my great grandfather did, but i never met him
🌹 What is one thing you would want to say about this topic?
i hope anyone going through this or has a loved one going through this will stay strong <3
1. There's over 100 types of cancers
2. I think one person in the family has bowel cancer or some type, on my mums side
3. I would say cancer should never defeat you I had family die of it and it's sad. Cancer is a very important charity to support. So many people need your help and go through this everyday we need to get more and more to support this charity and get behind them we can all do our bit. If your one going through this right now you are loved and cared for and don't let this defeat you. You can do this.
