Riddles!
This topic is about short riddles, because not everyone likes to do the larger logical puzzles. If you do like those, then click here.
If you've guessed the riddle, you can immediately post another one yourself. Let's keep it going.
I will start with this riddle:
What is easy to get into, but hard to get out of?
It starts off light and easy to bear, yet the more you carry it with you, the heavier a burden it becomes. What is it?
Unlike other rulers I am strengthened by neglect.
Over my jurisdiction, great taxes I elect.
When routine dues are paid, I am weakened severely.
Yet if too long delayed, it may cost you quite dearly.
My vault is of the flesh, my tellers silver and bone.
The upkeep of the kingdom is financed with a loan.
What am I?
@DarkWolf
Bank balance perhaps
@DarkWolf
@ladylazarus1971 Opps! technical difficulgties
I can't get past the thought that this has something to do with teeth or dental work. Any truth (tooth? lol) to that?
Both answers are incorrect (@ladylazarus1971 & @lazyKatz), and again, these new riddles are quite difficult. So heres a (maybe too big or too little?) hint to help you a bit. The answer is related to the human body, although it doesn't necessarily has to be a tangible thing. Good luck!
@DarkWolf
is it our heart or mind?
@mikhaela
Those answers are very possible with this riddle, but not what I am looking for.
(last hint: If you fail to do something you normally do multiple times a day.. this 'feeling' or 'craving' would occur already..)
A pallid visage in plain sight revealed by its foe.
It does not fast, it does not feast, and yet does shrink and grow.
Much grander and yet more minute than those it stands beside.
Unendingly stalking around, a circuitous stride.
What am I/What is it?
I'm left behind yet never taken, set down in a row.
Seldom seen in isolation, captured by the snow.
Set apart by haste, though immobile all the same.
When left un-defaced, a betrayal of the game.
What am I?
@DarkWolf
My first thought is a snowball, but that's probably not right.
@DancingAlong
It's not snowball
Born of the cold and born of the heat.
Pacing the world on legs oh so fleet.
Swiftest up high, lethargic down low.
The actions are seen, the form does not show.
What is it?
@DarkWolf a dream?
@mikhaela
That's a good guess, but not the correct answer.
This one might be a bit confusing, but lets try it.
With twelve eggs on order, the cook sat and thought.
"One at a time if I like it or not."
With three in the freezer and three in the pot,
Three in each hand neither too cold nor hot.
The first two were airy, or so he remembers,
The last two both burnt up and ended in embers.
What is it?
A bound serpent dances on the cave floor.
Writhing guardsman of the windy door.
Sharp yet supple and mute yet speaking.
Devoid of hunger, nourishment seeking.
What is it/what am I?
@DarkWolf
love?
@mikhaela
It's not love
@DarkWolf mind or brain?
@mikhaela
That's not it either, but you are getting closer. It's actually a tangible thing related to the human body
Ceaseless blur or rigid banner varying by host.
On the smallest scale less substantial than a ghost.
Commonplace yet pivotal to rise above it all.
As a pair they triumph yet once separated fall.
What am I?
@DarkWolf I would try the eyes again. or our sight?
@mikhaela
It's not eyes. The last 2 sentences of the riddle will probably be the most helpful to finding the answer to this one.
This is one of the few riddles I actually made up myself. (be aware, riddle + answer could be mildly triggering)
I know a restaurant. It has no menu, but you can order everything you want.
Eating there is free, yet theres a maximum amount of money you can spent.
The cook isn't professionally trained and exclusively cooks for one, because it's impossible for costumers to walk in here with or without reservation.
And still.. you wouldn't want to eat there voluntarily if you could.
How can this be? Where is this?
@DarkWolf is it heaven?
