I had two thoughts. 1) Words can hurt. 2) Try your best.
What would your note say? 
Enjoy your dog Milo. He wont stay here forever, love, Cherish and give him all the attention you can. Hes your best friend and no one will ever replace the bond you guys have for each other.

Don't get married.
I married my 21 yo bf when I was 16. He mistreated me with severe emotional and physical abuse. Although he hasn't physically abused me in 15 years, the psychological torture he has put me through has been unbearable. I couldn't ever leave him because I because he told me no one would want me or be able to deal with me. I am trauma bonded with him. I can't leave.

Time does heal.
I struggled with abuse and mental health since I was 12, and while some days are harder than others, it took me years to get to a point where I'm proud of who I am as a person. This was a loooong process, and it's still ongoing, but it took a truckload of patience and time.
No matters what they said... what happened... what did you think.. YOU ARE AWESOME
