Dog, easy. No more loyal a friend than a dog. More so than the vast majority of humans & certainly more than any house cat.
I don't own pets because ownership = responsibilities. Any animal is a living breathing creature, not a mere possession. It feels...depending on the species, it also thinks & even reasons, after a fashion. As such, it requires considerable care on a daily basis. Between looking after myself, my art/craft tools & supplies & my home library, I have more than enough to do as it is. Would sure like to adopt a shelter mutt...but I'm just not up to the job.
