I'm so thrilled to hear this! Reminds me of a video I saw of this person (maybe a Starbucks worker), using ASL to communicate with a customer the other day and the customer was shocked since they didn't know the worker knew it. Stuff like this can make someone's day worthwhile.
I hope more businesses can take an example from this, whether it's taking the time to learn a new language (speaking or signing), with even basic sentences, can go a far way or just become more welcoming.
that is so sweet and heartwarming!
@Jill7cups
I truly agree!
@Yendi I saw a video somewhere with a whole group of strangers who learned some things to say in ASL and then were planted along a street and then when this man who was deaf walked by they all signed something to him like hello or how are you etc. Kind of like a flash mob ha ha. I'm not describing it well but I cried, it was so sweet and he was so touched. Makes me want to learn some conversational ASL just in case.
@Jill7cups
I would probably have cried too haha. I find moments like those worthwhile to people, the fact that people can take the time to learn another language and if they go to that country or see someone, they can greet them. That's actually why I was trying to learn ASL, at least the basic alphabets and greetings and some conversation topics, for just in case situation, same with other languages just learning at least the greetings is thoughtful.
Do share that video if have time and can find it back!
@Yendi found it: https://youtu.be/R9IxsL98gqc
aaaand it got me again- water works.
@Jill7cups
My eyes are not wet, nope. Nope nope.
I loved that video so much and the waterworks has been let loose.
I had to locate the article because the one posted in the thread had an error message.
I didn't know this unknown fact. Sounds like a place to visit just to experience and to see the hearing impaired community interact! Thanks for sharing!
@helloKiwi4868 oh that is a bummer, try this: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/starbucks-sign-language-deaf-friendly-store_us_5bcf8e42e4b0a8f17ef1b436

Yes, I have! Mozzeria Pizza in San Fransisco! It is delicious and is completely run by deaf people! All people are welcome to go which makes it very enjoyable!
