Help and suggestions

Emm22 March 24th

I have cronic pain in my thighs and it really hurts but thankfully not all the time. Last night it had a really bad peak and I didn't know what to do. It really hurt and there was nothing I could do. I was sitting there crying and it was making me feel sick and I couldn't think straight so I didn't know what to do. I also didn't want to bug my family or friends because they don't know what to do so I had to keep to myself. I found heat is the best thing but I was wondering if anyone else had ideas?

Do you know what's causing it? Sometimes leg pain is related to menstrual cycles.

Baths can be helpful for leg pain.

If you don't know the cause discussing it with your doctor can help, and medication might be useful.

Here is an article list the top ten types of thigh pain.... leg pain in general can be cramping due to a mineral imbalance.   you should most likely see a doctor and check if something can be helped or if there is medication or supplements to help.

@Emm22 I am so sorry to hear about your chronic pain, I know what that is like and it can be very hard to know what to do. I like that the replies so far have concentrated on finding out why this is happening, that always helps me if I know. Do you have a listener that you can message and chat to? You can use the filter here for 'chronic pain' and look for a suitable listener https://www.7cups.com/BrowseListeners/  there is also the https://www.7cups.com/chronic-pain/  course that is interesting.
I think heat or cold always seems to be one of the other that helps. It all really depends on the cause and if there is a trigger or how to avoid the bad peaks. I am always being told that the 'boom and bust' syndrome is a major factor in pain. Doing too much and not pacing oneself and then stopping before reaching the bad pain threshold.  It's hard to stop doing something, but also sometimes it is going to be painful no matter what. Then, distraction can help or just knowing that 'this too shall pass'.

Thank you so very much. You have no idea how much that's gonna help

tearstruck March 27th

@MistyMagic hey :) that's a really helpful reply 🤗😁

I was just wondering if you have any tips for pacing/ the boom and bust cycle thing? I have chronic fatigue and I really struggle with that, often I overdo it and go past my energy limits, and other times I don't think I'm overdoing it and still end up exhausted. I have a lot of "post exertional malaise" ('catchup'/crash symptoms) and it's making studying very difficult 😢.

Thank you so much :)

@tearstruck. Hi There is a pretty good guide to pacing by Bruce Campbell  cfsselfhelp.org.  Also The Bateman Horne Center has information and videos about me/cfs.

Sorry to hear you're going through that 😢. I have chronic fatigue, and i definitely get the leg pain, so I kind of know what it's like, but I do find that different things trigger/worsen it and help it for me.

If I get pain at the back of my thigh, throughout my whole leg and arch of foot, or anything like that, heat definitely helps (electric heat mat), sometimes stretching or massaging it helps although it depends on the cause, that can also make it worse :(, and rest - because if my muscles are tired it definitely worsens it, and I seem to get it if I run out of energy as well. Hydration as well because poor circulation worsens it. Another one I've found is compression stockings! I recently tried some full length ones, which were actually prescribed for my dizziness and blood pooling, but ended up helping a lot with the leg cramps. Taking magnesium supplements or other electrolytes and water before bed I've heard can help a lot with regular cramps, it depends on your situation. Triggers for me tend to be cold, poor circulation, sleeping wrong/badly, overdoing it with my limited energy, or just random:/.

Hope it gets a bit better ❤️ take care :)

Thank you so much! I have horrible blood circulation in my legs because when I stand all the blood rushes to my feet and I definitely find compression so amazing. I haven't thought of massaging so thank you so very much

@Emm22 hey, thank you for your reply! Yes, compression is the best :) and definitely same with the blood dropping to the feet thing and poor circulation, I get really red tingling feet if I stand too long, especially in warmer weather. It's a classic POTS and dysautonomia symptom apparently, but I don't have pots, but chronic fatigue is similar. I get cold hands and feet quite a bit as well, but in warm weather it's the opposite, not only the feet thing, but my head getting hot makes me really dizzy.

Do you have less energy as a result of this as well? How are you doing with school and everything? I'm not very good at managing my energy unfortunately 😕

Really hope you find something that helps! Best of luck with all this, and feel free to tag/message me anytime you want to chat ❤️😊 take care :)

Oh my goodness school is so extremely difficult. I've been to endless doctors, I've had heart monitors, hospital visits. I'm hands and feet are always cool. I have bad blood circulation with causes blood pooling. I am always do extremely dizzy. This is such a relief that someone understands me. You have no idea how much this means. Can we private message?

@tearstruck.  @Emm22. There is an organization called dysautomia international which has a lot of good information about dysautomia. I have dysautomia and get dizzy a lot too.
