As an MS Warrior, I wanted to raise awareness for a condition that is near and dear to my heart.  Every March is MS awareness month.  Christina Applegate, Montel Williams, Selma Blair,  Richard Pryor, and Annette Funicello are a few of the famous faces that also have Multiple Sclerosis.  Who do you know that has MS and how do you support them?

@Kristynsmama

well I am not completely aware but I have read about this condition so correct me if I am wrong but of as far as I am aware it is a long-term problem that messes with your nerves, especially in your brain and spine. Your immune system gets mixed up and attacks the protective coating on your nerves, causing issues in how your brain talks to the rest of your body. This can bring on tiredness, trouble walking, numbness, and coordination problems. MS is different for everyone, and it can be unpredictable. Unfortunately, there's no cure, but there are treatments to help deal with the symptoms and make life better for people with MS.

also proud of you for always staying strong 🤍✨

wow you really do know a lot about MS.  The only thing I want to correct is that the treatments don’t really make life better.  Most of the time they make life worse.   They are not designed to help with the symptoms, they only prevent the progression of the disease.  And sadly, they don’t work for everyone.

people can experience a ton of vision problems too and can even be wheelchair bound..

@Kristynsmama I didn't know you have MS...am sorry to hear/read it. (CW: Illegal Drug mention) Also didn't know Richard Pryor had it. Was it an onset in his later years? His crack habit surely didn't help matters...Pryor had a whole stand-up routine about it & how he accidentally lit himself on fire while heating it up in his pipe.

Yes.  I was actually diagnosed in April of 2005.

I don’t think his drug use triggered it.  Stress is a more likely trigger for an MS flare up.

@Kristynsmama Thanks for starting off our Multiple Sclerosis Awareness month!

We have some exciting things planned for everyone!

We have some posts that will explain more about the disease in detail and also an interview with someone who has Multiple Sclerosis and they share all about how their life is affected.

We also have some discussions that will be run in the Disability Group Support rooms, adult and teen.

So please look out for these coming soon!

I've actually had a few brain MRIs 'just in case' to help exclude MS due to some of my symptoms.

My mother in law had MS.

MS also has a fairly high prevalence here compared to other regions - 340/100000 people.
