How did you find your purpose in life?
I am wondering how to find purpose in life. This is something I really struggle with, especially since I am so isolated. Life purpose is often grounded in a social setting, partly. How did you find your purpose?
Normally I would say if there's something you like to do, need to do, & enjoy more than anything else, then you found your purpose. But if you don't know what you want to do with your life...
Wish I had a better answer for you. I've been a creative person all my life...started fooling around with markers not too long after I first learned how to walk. At some point I realized that that was my purpose: to bring forth something where previously there was nothing. But having an inborn drive makes finding one's purpose almost automatic. If you don't have such a drive for something, then I have no idea what to tell you.
You could try a few different things & see what grabs you...go to a church & see if you find god. Try helping out with a local charity. Do you feel better when running or otherwise in motion?... Just try something.
@slowdecline48 I love running :') I always loved running and biking. I share your interest for art too!
@GumballMachine That's good. Now if you love running & biking a lot...if you'd rather push pedals, run like the Energizer bunny & rack up the miles instead of doing anything else, then that might be your purpose. If it is then you could take that in a few related directions:
- Get a job you can tolerate & do your cycling & running on the weekends or off days. That may or may not be the safest approach, economically.
- Get seriously into a sport that involves your activities & try to improve to the point where you can do it professionally. In your case, the only sport I know of would be triathlons (but you'd have to learn how to shoot, too. Still, it's all small-bore with finely tuned rifles so recoil wouldn't be a serious issue). If there is any other sport that combines cycling with running, I am not aware of it.
- Get into a sport that involves one of the two & improve enough to where you can do it professionally. Cycling would be a better bet in terms of longevity...running gives you tremendous endurance but it's also very hard on your knees & hips.
- Become a coach. Cycling coach or running coach, whichever you like better &/or whichever pays you more.
Those are all the ideas I have at the moment.
