4) Team Lightship: Tweeting Empathy
In our introduction, we briefly understood an introduction to how social media-based marketing at 7 Cups uses a project called Team Lightship.
In this discussion, we will understand how the Lightship initiative works in terms of using tweets for spreading awareness, support, as well as 7 Cups content and other service information. We will also learn how the Twitter platform can be used to outreach to people requiring and in search of mental health support, in order to ensure that mental health is not ignored or stigmatized on social media.
(i) Using Tweets to Spread Awareness, Support, and Content/Service Information:
As previously discussed, the goal of Lightship is to use social media to reach out to those in need using kind and empathetic messages.
General tips include:
-
What you tweet about should reflect the compassionate, supportive, and kind community that 7 Cups is. Use your best judgment.
-
View your Team Lightship account as a force for good, and for spreading the 7 Cups mission and values.
-
Feel free to discuss emotions, situations, and topics that often occur on 7 Cups.
-
You might also want to post/retweet quotes or pictures, and that’s 100% okay! Just remember that reaching out to people should be a priority. Think of how social media graphics can be used in that sense, to engage people.
-
Note: Lightship uses referral links (found on your dashboard page under the list of chats) to direct users to the 7 Cups site.
Tips in regards to which areas or services of 7 Cups you can mention (apart from the general fact about 1:1 or group chats!): Self-Help Guides, Expert Articles, Free Mindfulness Exercises.
Sample Tweets:
Having a tough time? Don't keep it all inside. If you want to talk, we're here to listen 24/7 #7Cups https://www.7cups.com/17156123 #MentalHealthMatters

(ii) Using Twitter to Outreach People Seeking Support:
The following steps are helpful ways to identify and respond to people seeking support:
-
Search for Keywords
Some keywords or hashtags can prominently help search for people in need of support.
Note: The following and other mental health-related tags on social media platforms can contain potentially triggering content.
-
Prominent Tags: need to vent, need a friend, feeling lonely, anxious, and depressed.
-
Other Tags Examples:
-
#depressed #anxious #depression #mentalhealth (high volume tags)
-
#needtotalk
-
#bullying
-
#chronicpain #chroniclife
-
#coping
-
#peersupport
-
#selfcare
Note: These keywords or hashtags can also be used in your own tweets to help ensure visibility and engagement.
-
Reply to Tweets
After your search for important hashtags and keywords, when you find someone who has tweeted using one of those tags, and looks to be in need of support, reach out to them! Respond to their tweet with a message that includes information about how 7 Cups can support them.

Your anxiety is reasonable and it makes total sense. It must be very hard seeing the carelessness of other people and having to put up with it. Here on 7 cups, we have self-help guides and mindfulness exercises that can help with better understanding and managing anxiety as well as a wonderful community of compassionate listeners ready to listen and support you.

@serenity4514
I like how empathetic and informative your messages are. For future reference, the maximum number of characters for a tweet is 280 characters (incl. words, space and URL).
Well done! And feel free to PM for any questions 💜
@serenity4514
This is a great post that really says it all.
Strengths: Your post really will appeal to a wide range of people suffering from many complaints about life, big, or small. Your hashtags will also reach a lot of people in need.
Weaknesses: There are words that could have been added but are not, words like, “we understand” would be great to hear, and maybe a sentence like. Everybody has advice, but you just want someone to listen. This would also be great.
What I liked especially: The question at the start is great as it gives the audience something to think about and maybe even may get them to contact 7 cups and give us a go.
Great job serenity4514
@serenity4514
This is a great response to the tweet.
Strengths: I really liked the simple phrase “it makes total sense”. It really addresses the feelings that the person may have about their sanity etc. You also mentioned in detail how 7 cups can help.
Weaknesses: I thought you could speak a little more directly to the person before mentioning what 7 cups has to offer, but this isn’t a big problem.
What I liked about the post: You really showed that there is hope and a lot of great options out there for the person and they will definitely want to check out what 7 cups has to offer.
Great work.

It is understandable that you are feeling the way you are. This pandemic has made our lives more challenging and filled with uncertainty. Sometimes talking about what we feel might help us process those emotions and enable us to feel better. In 7 cups, you can talk about your worries anytime, anonymously, and for free with a volunteer listener that is there to support you.

@MoonlightHelper1
I really love the use of hashtags and the personal tone of the tweets. If I had to find something to improve, I might make it a bit more casual. Sometimes tweets that sound too formal and information do not gain as much traction. However, this is not really an improvement for your tweets! We should definitely have both formal and casual tweets, so this is more of a suggestion for the Twitter account than your responses :)
@MoonlightHelper1
Amazing tweet examples. Empathetic copy, well targeted hashtags. I can see that you applied marketing part where you used CTA and introduced 7 Cups to a person.
For constructive feedback (no need to revise): maximum character for 1 tweet is 280. And your first tweet is 450 characters. Therefore, one of the interesting part in Twitter content marketing is how to create a copy that is short, engaging and trigger action.
It is quite challenging and a continuous trial and errors 😃
@SoulfullyAButterfly
1. Hypothetical tweet.
Daily routine before work. Step 1: AHHHHHHH (Yes, let that scream out). Step 2: Grab a coffee. Step 3: Talk to someone at #7Cups to get my spirits up!
2. Outreaching tips
It must be frustrating to navigate through the pandemic when some people don't seem to be able to follow simple rules. If you would like to vent about it and get tips about managing anxiety, we here at #7Cups can provide you a safe space to do so!
@colorfulTurtle948
Your first part was quite inviting. It made me feel welcomed.
Your second part, you connected to the writer and I like how you said vent, because the person (the writer) may have alot of emotions waying him/her down.
Tips: don't forget the ##....

Great response to the tweet here.
Strengths: You showed a lot of empathy in your response by mentioning how it is frustrating with peoples lack of care during these covid days.
Weaknesses: There was nothing that stood out. Maybe it would be a good idea to mention that 7cups is anonymous. It may sound more appealing.
Things that I liked about your post: Your post is short and succinct and really shows how much you care for the person.

Thanks for the review and tip!

These are great tweet examples! Use targeted hashtags, I saw you use #covid too, which is currently a high searched keyword.

When will the pandemic end? That is a question that many people have been asking. It is definitely something that has been on my mind. I want to travel back home and see my family rather than just speaking to them online. I also want to go back to the office as I am tired of working from home. I think many of you are feeling the same. Just step back and think. You have done well so far, you have social distanced and prevented your loved ones from getting covid. Just continue on. You are doing great. One day covid will be part of history. Just stay strong, stay safe that day will come.

That is an empathetic tweet. There is validation for someone's feeling and inspire hope. Additionally, you used potentially high searched hashtags there, which are #covid, #mentalhealthmatters, #resilience. Great job!
Constructive feedback (no need to revise):
- The number of characters exceeded the maximum.
- For the social media marketing exercise, you can add the marketing part by adding a link to a relevant feature/ content/ subcom/ page on 7 Cups, or tag 7cups Twitter account.
Hope you're enjoying the program!

I understand how you feel. There are a lot of people out there that still don't believe there is a pandemic. They feel they that they don't need to be considerate about others. Maybe they are complacent because they feel they are young and won't get sick at all from covid. We can't change the way they feel unfortunately. We just have to try to avoid them as much as possible. If you are worried maybe you can wear a mask. What you are doing is great though. Going for a walk will do wonders for your mental health. Just be patient with the people around you. Remember we are all in this together and we will beat covid in the end. #covid
