Sometimes I hate therapy

WhataDime713 May 5th, 2017

When I'm feeling good and have a therapist appointment, sometimes I feel worse when I leave. I don't like to be reminded of my anxiety when I'm not feeling it. When I'm feeling anxious, I already think about it enough.

@WhataDime713 yeah I relate to this. I've had therapists who say judmental or invalidating things... I'm taking a break from it for a bit.

Wow. I, and I bet a lot of other people, can sure relate to that statement. It sure can be excruciating to have sessions. My psychiatrist told me at the beginning that often people feel worse at first. Hopefully the bad part won't last too long for you.

@WhataDime713 I think it is normal to feel this way, I also have a therapist and can leave feeling a little lower than when I went in but self work and progress is not easy and it does cause us to look at the things we dont want to, sometimes looking at ourselves is uncomfortable and so we ignore it like it doesnt exist but that doesnt help us in the long run, facing these things feeling the discomfort and growing from it helps us so much more. I like to do an activity I enjoy after therapy, such as havign a bath so I can relax and reflect onthings my therapist said to me. Then I can process the session and let it go, its all about balance. Finding those things that work for you.

@WhataDime713 Its ok to feel that way !! Sometimes having an appointment reminds us that there is something wrong with us!

Which is wrong! Always remember that youre not alone and that youre very strong for surviving this!!

Is this feedback you can give to your therapist? Unfortunately therapy involves looking are really, really uncomfortable things. Maybe more communication with your therapist on how you can work on anxiety in a more useful way. Perhaps it's a style of therapy that isn't a good fit? I'm making a lot of assumptions, yes, but just throwing ideas out there. Hope it works out better for you soon!
