What are some things you do to calm anxiety or reduce depression? Anything is appreciated!

@spicyavocado3788 Well when I’m at home, I especially try to acknowledge and honor my anxiety at times. I close my eyes, and take a few big deep breaths in and out. Then, I go and shout my last name three times in the mirror, as loud as I can.

I know what anxiety can do. But I also know what I can do. 🗿🗿🗿

I know this isn’t the best tip, but for me distractions are typically the most useful. Going for walks, watching my favourite tv or spending time with family ^^

@spicyavocado3788 I like to do art and craft. It's a great distraction. There are other forms of art beside drawing, you do photography, or write a poem or story ❤❤ I hope you feel better soon ❤huggs you

My therapist taught me butterfly hugs which is a grounding exercise. You cross your arms loosely over your chest and with your index and middle fingers on each hand, tap your upper arms.

Walking and getting outside was a HUGE game changer for me, plus it bridged the gap into finding some beautiful places to see in general. On a super anxiety day, even a brisk 15 minute walk helps get rid of some of the excess energy running through me. If the weather is crap, Im not above doing a walking video from YouTube indoors, or even just playing loud music I can dance around to. Spending time with my animals is a huge one. I also recently got back into reading!!! I put on a chill lo-fi playlist for background news and get lost in a world totally outside of my own. :)

I go to a person I trust and ask about their day if it gets really bad (it's too hard to talk about how I'm doing most of the time, but the distraction usually gets me through it). Or I wrap myself up in a big coat and light a candle and lie on the floor and listen to a playlist of music I know will calm me and try to nap.

So very sorry you struggle with this too ♥️

@spicyavocado3788  Yoga, getting as much exercise as possible and it doesn't have to be at the gym, even just walking around your neighborhood, recently I've found that If I feel a wave of anxiety I force myself to do an activity. whether it's painting, cleaning my room or sewing, learning a dance on youtube. Putting your focus onto something other than anxiety I've noticed is what helps to refocus you're mind and sends a message to your body that it's okay to relax. if that makes sense. you never want to allow yourself to panic which a lot of people tend to do, they start to panic and then the anxiety gets heightened and then it takes longer to relax
