The difference between a Chatroom Mentor and Group Moderator.
Chatroom Mentors & Group Mods, what's up with the Green Badge?
Hello all!
There seems to be a bit of confusion between the different "Moderator" badges in the listener chatrooms and support rooms. I'd be happy to clear that up and feed your curioisty!
....(and use this as quick linking!)
Well, first off, what's a Group Moderator?
A Group Moderator (GM) is someone who overlooks the Guest/Member chatrooms to ensure they're safe, positive and abuse free! Group Mods can be identified by the green "Moderator" badge in any room open to Members and Guests.
So, Dan, what's a Chatroom Mentor then?
A Chatroom Mentor is someone who overlooks the Listener-Only Rooms to ensure they're safe, positive and again abuse free! Chatroom Mentors can be identified by the green "Moderator" badge in any listener room.
What's the difference between a Group Mod and a Chatroom Mentor?
That's a good question, we both share a lot of similarities, from keeping the rooms safe, inclusive, abuse free and overall positive all the way down to the fact we both get the green moderator badge.
The difference is however, a chatroom mentor is essentially a Group Mod for the Listener Rooms, but with a few extra responsibilities. For example, any Mentor (including Chatroom Mentors) can help listeners with ongoing chat help, answer any questions in the room and help get chats referred.
Mentors (again, including Chatroom Mentors) can also take on a 'Mentee' for training. This can include answering any chat related questions, providing mock chats, feedback and giving chat help.
Group Mods can't are sadly not permitted to do this, unless they are also a mentor (which we'll get into later)
I've gotten my "Group Mod" Badge, but the "Moderator" badge isn't showing up in the Listener Rooms, but I'm a moderator, what's happening?
First of all, if you're reading this, you're likely new to the "Moderator" or Mentor role. So congratulations on getting your badge! That's amazing, welcome to the team & happy modding/mentoring! ^_^ if you have any further questions, please feel free to drop them down below and I'll answer them for all to benefit!
Back to the question though; different badges show up in different rooms, for example...a "Peer Support" won't show in a Member/Guest room, and an "Anxiety Support" tag, wouldn't show in the listener rooms.
In order to get a "Moderator" badge in the listener chatrooms though, you'd have to take on a "chatroom mentor" role (See above). However, your Group Mod badge will show up in any and all rooms that members and guests can enter, including any new rooms that will open up. Ever!
It's important to note, Just like a Group Moderators' "Moderator" badge won't show up in a listener room, a Chatroom Mentors' "Moderator" badge won't show up in the Guest/Member rooms unless they have the "Group Mod" badge.
Okay Dan, I get it, they're two different roles...but can I be both a Group Mod AND a Mentor?
Yes, since they're two completely different roles, a Group Mod can become a mentor, and a Mentor can become a Group Mod!
You can be a Group Mod and A Support Tag on the Guest/member chats, and you could be a Chatroom Mentor, and Peer Support in the listener rooms!
So, what do other Mentors do?
You can look over the mentor roles, the criteria to become one, who is on which mentor tracks and what they do here:
Each Mentor specialises in a different track, however, any mentor can take on Mentees and help out with ongoing chats!
The only reason Chatroom Mentors get a "Moderator" badge in the rooms is because Chatroom Mentors specialise in a Chatroom Environment and are trusted with the power to delete messages and warn users, which other mentors (and Peer Support) can't do.
Well okay, Dan...you got me this time...but if I have any more questions, I'm leaving them in YOUR inbox.
I don't think anything would make me happier!
Welcome to your new role, wear that badge in, Rookie! You're a Mod/Mentor now, and you're going to do great, or else you wouldn't have got that badge! We know you're great.
I'm tagging you to hear your thoughts, easy bookmarking and/or to add on anything I've missed!

Fantastic Job! This makes much more sense to me. Although, I'm still not clear on the role of Peer Support. Would you (or another knowledgeable person) kindly explain the role?
