Hey

Does anyone ever feel like they're actually doing it right?

I think there are many ways to approach things in life. Sometimes bad things happen outside our control, and life can be cruel. I make the best of what cards are handed to me in life, and that's all I can do. I learn and grow from hard times.

Right in terms of? If it’s about living life then may be yes or may be no - after all we are humans - learning each day ♥️

Hi Cory! 😊 ❤️

Many thanks for creating this forum post and for your specific question (oopsie, should have been....."for your question specifically" 😊). I for one love how you have posed a question and one that is most vague! For me, it leaves it open to interpretation, for us to sit here with you, to be free thinkers and I can only imagine how much fun it is for you to sit back and read the responses of others. Our responses likely say a great deal about us as well as our outlook on life. 😊

So...let's see. To answer the question of "does anyone ever feel like they're actually doing it right"? For me, succinct response is....sometimes.

I imagine it depends upon the task at hand. In an effort to be of help others, I'll tell them what it is that I know and all day long. I'll also tell others what it is that I do not know and all day long. Being incredibly forthcoming and admitting my lack of knowledge and or skills is in fact, "doing it right" if I also try my best to help them to find an answer that I don't know. Part of being knowledgeable can be knowing who else might have the answers if we don't and it can be a great experience to then, learn together.

Sometimes I will self reflect and consider in regard to just about anything...."what went right and what went wrong"? It's great to bask in the glow, give ones self a big ole' pat on the back and to spend a moment in celebrating a personal victory. This is part of growth and healthy self esteem.

It's also particularly advantageous to understand what didn't go quite so well. What went wrong, how can I learn from this experience, how can I use this to grow and potentially do better next time? I find that also to be quite healthy. The first step to receiving an education is admitting ones ignorance. The ones that think they are always "right" rarely learn much.

I enjoy learning from others. I'm not particularly an argumentative type, rarely dogmatic about things, but instead like to hear the thoughts and feelings of others. I enjoy not having to be "right". Being open about things, not having to be "right" can set the stage for others to feel comfortable enough to share and perhaps enlighten us. I may have certain thoughts about things. My attitude is... challenge me, enlighten me, give me good reasons to change my position and we can go from there as I am truly a willing spirit.

Even in some instances, if I feel very strongly about something, it's best that I hear the thoughts of someone that has an opposing view as I have heard them out, used the "Steel Man" technique, understood counter intuitive thoughts even better and I could end up feeling even more strongly about my "position" (or not). Guess that wouldn't have happened if I just walk around feeling as if "I am right".

No need to *hand me a lumbar pillow* for being spineless or a "yes woman" as I still have a value system and my moral compass is not broken. Some things truly are worth standing up for and somethings I simply know I'm "doing things right".  There will be no "The Emperors New Clothes" scenario happening with me. I think that is "doing it right" as sometimes it can be really hard to tell someone the truth and especially when you can see that others are too afraid to do so.

I think it's really good to question ones self and often. One of my faves is the "Dunning-Kruger effect". In short, it tells us that the more we think we are oh so fabulous, that we are an expert, that we are oh so very right, the closer we are to being "oh so very wrong" lol 😊

If you question your performance, whether it is that you are "doing it right", if you have concerns, the greater likely hood that you are doing much much better, trying harder than your cohorts that feel as if they are consistently "doing it all right".

Either way, there are some moments in life where we have to ask ourselves "do I want to be right or do I want to be happy"? "Right fighters" rarely are.

Again, many thanks for your intriguing forum post! This stream of consciousness moment was fun!

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️

Hi SamZed! 😊  ❤️

I really like your outlook! What it is that you have said, deeply resonates with me! ❤️

I try to believe that the universe is always conspiring in my favor as opposed to against me. I imagine it may be a mind set? What is it that we are attending to? What is it that we are "scanning" our environments for?  "What you seek, you shall find". 😊

Even challenges can be seen as opportunities in disguise. I constantly question and even in the hardest of times, what is it that I am supposed to learn from this?

@JustCory88 I would have, had not there been this big magnificent distraction called society and its idiosyncratic rules that don't always make sense. Not to mention the unwritten rules of conduct that one had to decipher from behaviour!

The thing is: there comes a time when you have to draw a line and ask yourself: Does this feel right to you should you be enacting your life in an empty auditorium, bereft of the gaze of the ones who keep telling you what's right and what's not.

If at that moment your answer is yes, then go with it. I've been doing that these days.

Besides, we are all in at least one person's black book. So, no point in pleasing everyone, really.

Yes, mostly.
