Mixed Girl Chronicles. Lets talk!

...See more I want this to be a thread where anyone can ask question and talk about their experiences. Even if you aren't mixed, you can still weigh in. Here's my experience: I don't want to say that being mixed comes with a weird experience, but that's what's coming to my mind when I think about being mixed. Two or more separate races, two separate cultures all mixed together can be a bit interesting. Most of my life, I went through a phase of feeling like I had to choose a side and feeling like I didn't belong anywhere. That was a constant struggle. I did tend to gravitate to one side more than the other, however. I think that happens with a lot of mixed girls. My mom and Grandma are always over my shoulder reminding me "you know you're part British too!!" lol. It just gets uncomfortable when there's a lot of racial tension going on. I believe the most recent thing that happned was the H&M thing. I'm open to both sides and I love both cultures. I love being me.

...See more Moving from California to Texas was a huge culture shock for me. I went from living in a fast paced city to living in a slow paced, almost country suburbs. I absolutely love Texas now.
"But, What Are You?"

...See more The question that I dread getting asked the most is "What are you?" As if I look like an alien or something. I'm going to make business cards describing my ethnicity to others just so I don't have to explain it. lol. I just had to get that off of my mind. Can anyone else relate?
Hairstyles.

...See more When I was a little girl my ex best friend's mom used to put plaits and cornrows in my hair whenever I would go and stay the weekend there. Black girls who didn't know me always said that I was just a white girl trying to be black. I am multi-racial. I'm Black, French, Native American, Dominican and British. There certain hairstyles that I am able to wear ( because my hair will hold these styles) but don't out of fear that I'd still have those same experiences. is it still culture appropriation if I wear "black" hairstyles even though I'm mixed?
Testing...

...See more Don't be afraid to get tested and ask your partner if they have been tested. Make it a point of conversation before you decide to have sex with someone. And last but not least, protect yourself ALWAYS. Some people's biggest fear is getting pregnant. The biggest fear should be catching something that you cannot get rid of and can kill you. Be careful y'all. It's real out there

...See more As a teenager, I always thought that I'd have my life together in my twenties. I thought by 23, I would've been graduated college, or getting ready to graduate with my masters, thought I'd be out on my own with a condo or a nice car. I thought I'd be engaged and getting ready to be married by 25... life doesn't go as we plan and that's perfectly fine. It doesn't matter how long it takes to reach your goals, as long as you are working towards them then you are doing a great job. Keep going!
