Types of Bipolar Disorders

...See more I know that this information is out there in other posts, but I wanted to take the time to put it all together in one thread. 2.6% of Americans have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (not including the countless that go misdiagnosed) and yet most don't realize that there are different types. When thinking about Bipolar Disorder the majority just think about highs and lows, they don't know that they can range in severity and kind. Bipolar 1 Disorder Bipolar 1 is the most common type of Bipolar Disorder. In order to be diagnosed one must experience at least one severe manic episode as well as periods of depression. This type of Bipolar Disorder is also believed to be the most treatable. Bipolar 2 Disorder Bipolar 2 is the second most common type of Bipolar Disorder. It is similar to Bipolar 1, however people with Bipolar 2 experience hypomania rather than one severe episode of mania. *Hypomania is a milder form of mania Cyclothymic Disorder Cyclothymia is a mild mood disorder that affects 0.4% to 1% Americans. People with cyclothymia experience mild depression and hypomania, as opposed to the severe episodes associated with other types of Bipolar Disorder. Mixed Bipolar Disorder Mixed Bipolar Disorder is a type of Bipolar that is often difficult for individuals without a mood disorder to understand. Mixed Bipolar is characterized by episodes of manis and depression that occur at the same time. A person who is experiencing a Mixed episode may feel really depression and lethargic, and yet have this intense energy inside that they can't dampen or expel because they still feel very depression. Rapid-Cycling Bipolar Disorder Rapid-cycling Bipolar Disorder refers to patients diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder who experience 4 or more episodes of mania or depression in a 12 month period. Some patients experience multiple episodes in the same week or day. Information received from: http://hubpages.com/health/Types-of-Bipolar-Disorder I would love to hear if you all have anything to add, I love to always continue my search for knowledge. If you have any experiences that you wish to share, please feel free to do so!

Fear of Elevators

...See more Hey All! This morning I wanted to take a minute to talk about my fear of elevators! The fear of elevators apparently doesn't have an official phobia name (although it should!), but is still a very common fear. They believe that the fear of elevators may stem from claustrophobia [https://www.verywell.com/claustrophobia-2671681] or agoraphobia [https://www.verywell.com/symptoms-of-agoraphobia-2671979], which does make sense, although my fear isn't about being in a small crowded place. I am always scared that the elevator is going to break and free-fall! I can't remember how long this has been going on, I don't remember a time where I didn't feel nervous getting into an elevator. I know that it is a common fear, but I have never met anyone who gets as freaked out as I do when having to go into an elevator. Anyone else have this fear?

...See more Hey Everyone, Today I'm posting about Chilopodophobia which is a fear of centipedes. I am not afraid of bugs in general, there are many bugs that I think are interesting, even pretty, but centipedes give me the creeps! I'm not sure if it is the tiny little legs, or the way they crawl, but even typing this up is making my skin crawl. Centipedes are just creepy, gross and make me anxious! Can anyone relate to this fear?!

10 Things About Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar, Schizophrenia & Psychosis Support / by Quinzel241

...See more So I was scrolling through the internet, looking for more information on the disorder, and I found a website that had a list of 10 basic things that you need to know about Bipolar Disorder: 1. What is Bipolar Disorder? A type of mood disorder characterized by a fluctuation of feeling really down to really exergized or manic. These fluctuations are more severe than the normal ups and downs that people go through. 2. The Mood Peaks and Valleys of BP are Severe During a manic episode caution goes out the window with regards to spending, alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex and many other areas. During a depression episode the person has time to reflect on what had happened during the manic episode, which may lead to self-loathing, feelings of hopeless or despair. 3. Bipolar Disorder Can Run In Families 4. Recognizing Bipolar Disorder Can Be Difficult It may be hard to recognize BP initially, because most of the time people with BP get misdiagnosed with Depression. This may be the case because they only seek help when they are feeling low, and don't mention the highs that they feel during mania. 5. Bipolar is Treatable! BP is treatable with medication, but it takes so much more than medication to feel better. Learning more about the disorder is so important as you can learn your triggers or "warning signs" for when you are about to switch to a manic or depressed episode and then get help accordingly. 6. Mood Stabilizers are the Most Effective Treatment For Bipolar Disorder. 7. Additional Medications May Still Be Needed. 8. What Side Effects Can I Expect? Side effects of mood stabilizers can differ depending on which medication you are taking, as well as the dosage. The main ones are weight gain, drowsiness, fatigue, and it may initially cause you to feel a bit sick. 9. How Should I Take My Medications? The most important thing is to take it EVERY DAY. It is very important to talk to the doctor prescribing the medications and/or the pharmacist dispensing if you have any questions or concerns. 10. Talk With Someone Else Like You. Talking with someone else who has BP can be very therapeutic. It is sometimes difficult to talk to someone who doesn't have a mental illness, and therefore may be easier to talk to someone who is going through a similiar experience. Thank you all for reading :)
