Sometimes when we've been feeling down for a while, its easy to feel like that's the norm. It becomes comfortable and routine. And when we finally get to the point where we want to make a change, it feels too much like leaping out of our comfort zones and the sadness that we've become accustomed to. And sometimes we enjoy feeling sad because it means feeling something, at the very least. But it's important to slowly but surely reintroduce positive emotions because we are all worthy of a life that we can feel happy and content with.

Something I struggled with too! What I've found is that we often become comfortable feeling sad. Perhaps being that way led to having friends talk to you more frequently, asking if you're ok. Or you've grown to be comfortable in that sad state. Or you dont' know how to move out of being sad. There's a number of reasons. I think we enjoy what sadness can sometimes bring, which is sympathy and comfort from other people. The only problem with that is that we associate that comfort with being sad, so we sometimes try to remain sad in order to continue being in that company.

I think that when we get to the point where we feel sad, we want some sort of attention, whether it be from a specific person or just period. Sometimes the want, or need in some cases, for attention can get in the way of our happiness, making us upset to the point where we can't be happy until we have that desired attention.

I can't answer this for anybody else, but I can say as far as myself I enjoy being sad sometimes even if it's not the best emotion simply because feeling sad is better than nothing at all to me. It makes me feel alive even during the times I'd rather not be alive.

Feeling sad is not necessarily a bad thing. Some of the greatest works of art, music, and poetry were written when the artist was at a low point. Gaining the ability to experience our emotions in a healthy way is an important step on our journey. If you find yourself unable to stop feeling sad, then it's time to reach out to someone who can listen to what you're feeling and help you. Remember, all emotions can help us to grow - even the sad ones.
