To me depression is when everything is just gray and black, nothing you do realy matters, nothing you try realy helps. No matter what you attempt to do it seems to just fail and backlash. At all times. To me that is how depression manifested and how it almost swallowed me whole.

Losing interests in things you used to enjoy- not being able to attribute the problem to any one thing; things that should make you happy in a healthy state of mind feel empty.

For me, depression is like a black hole and the further you go into the black hole, the less motivation you have and the more sorrow, emptiness and pain you feel. it's also kind of like a black cloud that just comes over your mind and makes everything foggy and confusing

When you're depressed you think that your life has no value, you think that you make no difference in the world and you kinda annoy yourself for being alive (you hate yourself and everything that you do). Depression isn't always wanting to kill yourself. It is just not having the capability to feel happy (not for a long period of time). You might not want to kill yourself, but you wouldn't mind if you died.

To me depression feels physically like gravity is suddenly the most powerful force on earth and it weighs every muscle in your body down. And mentally: depression is an inability to construct a positive future.

Well here's an analogy to help. It's like a dark stormy cloud that hangs over you, it casts its shadow over you and there's hardly any light that comes through to you. In this case the shadow is like deep sadness, it brings you down and when you try to be happy little or no light will come through. It might make you a little happy but it won't have much effect. Some days it's not as bad, there's hardly a cloud hanging over you. Other days it's like a dreadful thunderstorm, like your feeling are so overwhelming it's like being in an "emotional storm" darkness from the cloud is hard to escape from it wants to keep where you are, it wants you to feel weak and no longer motivated.

It would be hard to describe depression and be accurate. There are different types of depression and depression affects us all differently. However, some common symptoms are loss or gain in appetite, constant low moods, no energy, lack of motivation, feeling helpless or hopeless, crying often, sometimes physical pain and or thoughts of suicide. Any amount of depression can be a dark time for anyone.
