At the point you can no longer cope with it and start suffering seriously while become unable to maintain your normal obligations.
When you cannot function doing easy day to day tasks such as eating, watching or meeting people. Also if you cannot function at work or education then it is a problem.
when it effects your daily responsibilities and tasks sleep deprivation can become a major distraction in your life.
Sleep deprivation can become a problem when you find yourself zoning out, irritated, and uncomfortable. If you haven't gotten at least 32 hours of sleep in the past 4 days, it is a problem.
Sleep deprivation is when your mind stops your body from getting its 8 hours sleep. I guess some get only 5 hours sleep. I guess it can be a problem when you can't concentrate, or that you do get to work or obligations on time. Or that it starts to affect other parts in your life like your relationships or your health.
Sleep is very important for your health. If you have a sleeping disorder, it is important to see a doctor. Without sleep, your body cannot function properly.
Sleep deprivation by definition is always a problem. It's when it prevents you from performing basic functions that it would be recommended to seek outside help.
When it starts to interfere with how you function on a daily basis and/or is taking a negative toll on your mental/physical health.

Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when u no longer can concentrate on anything, when you are forever feeling tired and are low in productivity.
Sleep deprivation was something i struggled with .. primarily because i was a perfectionist and workaholic ..
And there is not a single day i regret this ..cause i still live with the consequences from what i used to do years back .
Not letting your body rest or not getting enough sleep is the sure path to getting chronic problems. Please give your body a break. Your body has great regenertive capacity and taking care of it can do wonders to your life and longevity.
It becomes a problem when it affects your daily quality of life, and when all you can ever think about is how tired you are or how bad you wish you were in bed sleeping. It becomes a problem when you cannot focus and appreciate your present life because all you can ever think about is how much you want to close your eyes and take a nap.

At the point when you feel tired and sleepy most of the time and affects your everyday life. I think that's a red light.
Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when you start to avoid things you would normally be doing or start compensating for the lost sleep in an unhealthy way, such as excessive caffeine. At this point, you need to evaluate what may be causing you difficulty and develop a plan to begin to relieve the issue.

it all depends on activities, when you're sleep deprived but didn't do much activities you won't feel tired, but if you have a usy schedule and you're not sleeping, adding to that the fact that a lack of sleep can cause eating disorders or stress then that's when it's a problem. generally stopping everything and just laying down and relaxing can help, even if not sleeping but just the fact that a body is relaxed can help feel better or refreshed

Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when you're losing important things in your life because the way it could effect you, like work, friends, relationships or your own health
At the point where you cannot properly function in your day to day life due to being tired. This can be sooner if you work with heavy machinery or driving or in certain care fields as you need to be more alert.
Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when it interferes with your daily life and/or relationships, etc.
It can depend on the amount of hours of sleep you're actually getting over a certain amount of days, weeks or months. If you're not able to sleep for 3 days then It's a concern, a week or more then It's alarming and you should seek some help.

Immediately, one missed night's of sleep causes reduced reaction times and sluggish thinking which can lead to all kinds of disaster and also limits how much the body can repair itself during the night. In the grander scheme of things, sleep derivation becomes a 'severe' problem once psychological issues start occurring, long term sleep deprivation can inhibit brain development in certain areas and can increase risk for diabetes and other illnesses/diseases.
Well, sleeping that little until you have eye bags are definitely not healthy, however, some people don’t get eye bags, so your way to gage if you sleep too little is firstly if your grades start to drop. Sleep helps to refresh our mind and memory, which improves grades! A second factor is if you are starting to have more pimple outbreaks. Sleep is also a reset button for your skin to rest and replenish! Feel free to add more pointers into my post, and I hope it has helped you. Sleep well!
I think sleep deprivation becomes a problem when it is already affecting your work/school and most especially your health.

The point where it disrupts your day to day activities. When you can no longer function well in going about your daily activities then that's when it is already a problem.

I think at the point where it's interfering with your normal functioning. If you're noticing that you can't or don't want to do the things you normally do, this may be due to tiredness. Sometimes it is even as subtle as mood changes. Sleep is an important part of how we function as human beings, so if something is causing problems with your sleep it's important to take steps to address it.

When you're getting less than 4 hours of sleep, or when you wake up tired. Your mind tries to cope with all of the loss of sleep, that if you keep getting, say 3 hours of sleep each night. Your mind is lacking the time to reproduce cells and get the rest from the long day.

Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when you are doing anything at all, and can not seem to respond to this activity as you do the norm. Sleep deprivation becomes a problem when you cannot think straight, cannot move, cannot see the obvious (what might be right before your eyes!). It is to be taken seriously, my friend. It is literally affecting the way your brain acts and responds, like the way nicotine does to a smoker. Your cognitive abilities can be altered entirely, you can gain or lose weight rapidly. No doubt it is a large negative factor on your overall heath.
I know that I struggled with remembering things, was far too easily irritable, and my mood swings came and went faster than a sparrow when I experienced a period of insomnia that disallowed regular sleeping patterns. I felt like my head was too heavy, that my feet weighed more with every step. I often struggled very much in school and was unable to grasp new concepts and notions insinuated and taught by my teachers.
Wikipedia relates, "...attentional lapses also extend into more critical domains in which the consequences can be life-or-death; car crashes and industrial disasters can result from inattentiveness attributable to sleep deprivation." Your sleep is detrimental to your health; they are directly correlated. It is a massive issue with so many people.
Keep yourself safe out there, friend. Get your sleep. Best wishes to you, dear.
When it impacts your job, school, family and people around you. That’s when sleep deprivation becomes a problem.

When your attention span suffers and you make simple mental mistakes such as forgetting simple things. Also, physically you may have a headache or feel "foggy".
It becomes a problem when you struggle to function properly, e.g. you feel week, unmotivated and tired.
