The Four Human Endowments
The author believes that human beings possess four human endowments, these endowments separate us from animals and they lie in the space between stimulus and response. They are as follows:
- Self-awareness: View yourself as objectively as possible, becoming aware of your strengths and weaknesses
- Conscience: Our internal guidance system
- Independent will: Our capacity to act
- Creative Imagination: To solve problems, to envision a future
It is important that to succeed in life, we must understand that these four endowments are related and one without the other is incomplete. The reason these are being mentioned is that you will use these to determine what to spend your time on and dedicate time to improving them resulting in a better quality of life.
