Why? Because mindfulness helps you to decrease the “need” to fix or control situations, including one’s internal experience which is something that has proven to be a factor in substance use recovery. Later in this path, we will learn and practice the skill of urge surfing. It is about noticing urges and cravings as they arise without acting on them, until they pass like ocean waves that crest and then recede.
