- A subjective experience:

Types of loneliness include:
1) Social loneliness:
- From lack of social network connections
2) Emotional loneliness:
- From lack of deep, nurturing relationships with other people
Other types of loneliness:
Family loneliness:
- Lack of close ties with family members
Romantic loneliness:
- Lack a close bond with a romantic partner
Cosmic loneliness:
- Feeling alone in a hostile universe
Cultural loneliness:
- Lonely while in a foreign culture so not understood, etc. for example, immigrants feeling alone and missing their home culture
Existential loneliness:
- A universal condition felt by everyone somewhat
- Due to the impossiblility for anyone to continually satisfy their inherent need for connection
Lockdown loneliness:
- Due lockdowns like COVID-19 pandemic isolation
Loneliness can be:
- Transient
- Chronic
