How to Increase Courage: Acknowledge Your Fears
In this step, we’re exploring small tricks and habits that can help increase levels of our courage. Here we focus on acknowledging our fears
Acknowledge Your Fears
One way that fears can control us is by encouraging avoidance coping. Avoidance coping is a maladaptive coping mechanism where you change your thoughts, behaviors and environment to avoid engaging with a potentially stressful stimulus. While this can be okay in moderation, it can lead to negative habits such as procrastinating and extreme risk-aversion.
One way to combat avoidant coping is by acknowledging your fears, an exercise that you have already done earlier in this pathway! One way to ensure you are doing this regularly and not falling into the trap of avoidance is to regularly journal about your fears and how they impact you.
You can find some prompts about fear and courage to reflect on in your journal here.
